Contents insurance, claiming
Discussion
Being the sort of honest chap i am my home contents insurers have had approx £600 out of me without a claim.
However, recently spoke to someone who reckons you should make at least one small (£300 odd ) claim a year. Or roughly what your premium is.
Now i find this actually quite tempting but there is a catch. I am a worryer, hence this post:D. I'm positive men in black overalls will ransack my abode during the night for signs of fraud. And other such paranoid fantasies.
As i understand it your premium does not go up when you claim but the underwriter will no longer take on your policy if you are seen as unprofitable shall we say.
Before i delve more into this new tv type scenario i wondered what your thoughts were on less than honest claiming etc.
Experiences and suggestions most welcome. Only for broken, lost or stolen items though. Of course. We can't condone any sort of fraudulant or unlawfull activity here:D;)

I see you "condone completely" the setting fire to of government propety ie speed cameras. Paid for by the tax payers money et cetera et cetera.
Unyet you see me enquiring about claiming off my contents insurance akin to being a chav FFS.
Yes, there was a nudge and a wink in my post but so far as i can tell.; my claiming for whatever circumstance has no direct or indirect affect on anyone but ME!
It's not as if i'm claiming off a sports car and so pushing the catergory up for that make and model now is it?
I don't profess to being a saint and like i said, I wouldn't want to enroll anyone into doing anything fraudulant but comeon, eh?!

Honest Question .... don't we all pay for dishonest claims through increased premiums??
Yes, we probably do. Given the amount of effort the insurance companies put into identifying dishonest claims, we might as well all have a go because they do absolutely
all in my experience. Colleague of mine dropped his camera and broke the lens. Phoned insurance company. Told them he'd dropped the whole thing in a canal. 2 days later, latest upgraded model turns up in the post. They never asked for proof that he'd ever owned a camera. Or what model it was. Or where he was at the time. Any witnesses. Original packaging.

When i bought the insurance i asked the saleswoman if my premium would go up if i claimed. This was two years ago and it was just a question for imformation purposes only. She told me that my premium wouldn't go up however, if the underwriter thought that i was too much of a risk to underwrite in the future then they woldn't.
Can you believe it, i'm actually starting to feel guilty now
Thought crimes eh?, they are the worst

Dont worry about it Bilko, everybody has skeletons in the closet.
I recently had a new roof on the house, not long after having the old one repaired, which i've done at least twice before. Anyway, my garage roof is leaking, so i rang and tried to claim for the previous roofing repair, i told them i had a receipt for the work but they just gave me the knock back because they could'nt inspect the damage, so then i asked how i stood on claiming for my garage roof which was damaged by slates blown off the roof and because it was indirect damage, they refused me there as well.
