Airport Delivery

guys, have any of you used Birmingham (UK) airport to have your AS engine delivered to. Did you have to make prior arrangments with the airport? Any info would be useful. thanks .Dave..

The engine will still come in to London Heathrow, then be transported by road to your nearest airport and BAX office, you can then collected it from them or have it delivered for a bit extra.

Mine flew in to Manchester then up the M6 to Prestwick. I think that the BAX office got in touch to say it was ready (it was 2 years ago so I could be wrong). They then asked for the usual arms and legs for clearing it through customs, duty, VAT, etc. They offered to deliver but didn't have a tail lift van (and I don't have a fork lift ) so I went with a van to pick it up.

Found the Prestwick BAX office a real pleasure to deal with (bit of a novelty value for them - they don't get engines every day).

When I had engine parts shipped from the US the BAX office told me to declare Bournmouth as the point of entry to the UK. As others have said it came into Heathrow and went by customs bonded lorry to Bournmouth. The reason was that small regional airports charge less customs for some reason. Check it out with your BAX office, they may have a local grass airstrip where customs only charge 3 and six.

Dave, Sorry to jump on your thread.....

How long did it take to get your engines out of customs once it had landed?

My Fastco lump has just left NY but I'm not sure how long I have to wait before I get the VAT/Duty call.

Mine cleared in 1 or 2 days. Difficult to tell as I was not sure when it landed and how long it took to travel from Heathrow down to the seaside.

Just found out the engine is due to leave JFK Saturday and ETA to my place, Tuesday

I imported an engine from summit racing in jan 05. It was sent via Bax to manchester. The office there were not the most helpful. They didnt reurn calls then sent me a letter telling me i was about to incur storage charges. Keep on top of them. True but my delivery was still at Heathrow (according to trace) 3 days after I had all the bits spread out on the garage floor.
