I have an A4 on a 4 year/60k PCP with VWFS.

The PCP contract expires mid October 2019.

The A4 has done approximately 57,500 miles today August 8th.

For family/financial reasons I need to VT the PCP a couple of months early.

VWFS have sent me a questionnaire - "why the early VT?" etc

I can answer these questions truthfully.

The excess mileage will cost me around £100 so not getting too worried about that

However, they have also sent me a list of all damage that is viewed as ABOVE fair wear and tear, together with the likely cost to me.

There are a couple of instances of kerbed alloys (nothing horrendous) and one MINOR rear bumper scuff which does show the primer paint.

The cost to me for the bumper has been quoted at £110, which is pretty much what a "Chips Away" type mobile man in a van would cost me.

The car is almost 4 years old and in my opinion is still in very good condition.

I would consider all imperfections on the car to be FAIR wear and tear, it's not a new car !

As part of the VT somebody from British Car Auctions will inspect the car and drive it away telling me what I owe for all of the above.

Can he refuse to take it off the drive if I refuse to sign ?

Can VWFS insist on these charges ?

All replies appreciated.

BCA will take your car even if you don't agree to damage and don't sign documents. VWFS is pretty decent, so no need to panic.

Many thanks
I was potentially looking at £400 which I could put towards my next car
Will update this post if I get any grief.

Why are you going down the VT route?

I would've thought it'd be easier to get a settlement figure from VWFS, then see whether you can trade the car in somewhere to cover that figure. You may even find you've got some equity in the car, and this avoids any damage or excess mileage charges.

The agreed purchase price is circa £12k
I dont have 12k lying around and want to get a nearly new car funded by myself not another lease.

Well thats what VWFS have stated - the excess mileage pro rata

It's only around £95 so not going to make a fuss

Its more the alloys and rear bumper minor damage that bothers me

Have you had any bids on the car?

If it’s a PCP and the value is greater than the outstanding amount then you can pocket the difference.
Just type the reg into webuyanycar and ask VWFS for a settlement figure and this will give you a good idea about where you are financially with this car.

Yep that’s what I was trying to say

You’re free to sell the car and whoever buys it just needs to pay VWFS the £12k, plus you can get whatever extra it’s worth on top...

VWFS have an online guide as to what constitutes fair wear and tear.
It makes various stipulations on size of minor dents, scratches and wheel kerbing.
Would be worth googling and checking of what you have been told is with the guide .

So is this car on a lease or PCP?
There’s a big difference between the two.

If a PCP you can just trade it in anywhere, hopefully get more than £12k, pay (or whoever you buy your new car from can pay) VWFS their £12k and trouser the rest.
Very very simple, if you understand how PCPs work...

If it’s a lease, generally you’re stuffed.

Just checked my tyres.
The front 2 maybe borderline.
Auction guy coming this Thursday August 22nd.
Can he refuse to drive the car away if he thinks they are below the legal limit or just include the replacement costs on the invoice VWFS will send me ?
Or would you just bite the bullet and get them changed before Thursday ?

If they’re legal he will take it

If they’re not legal he won’t.

It’s a bit simple really wink

Auction chap just gone and taken my A4 with him.

Total "bill" for 2 x kerbed alloys, scuff down to the primer on rear bumper and a 2k excess mileage ?

£50.00

He was very thorough but very fair. The alloys were within the tolerance of fair wear and tear and bumper scuff apparently was not a big issue.

Very pleasantly surprised.
