After white wine, 2 or 3 decent size glasses, nothing else, you drift off into a pleasant sleep only to wake 3 hours later with buzzing head and general irritability.
The last time I noticed it I had drank a bottle of Chardonnay with my wife which resulted in a noticable 'itchiness' all over my skin.
This time it's a Chablis (not really cheap stuff too, both were £8 plus per bottle).
No real 'itchiness' this time but still, not desirable
Does it happen to anyone else?

Without fail if I go for a drink in the afternoon before eating dinner. I think that it's from when you sweat in your sleep but I'm not sure.

Oh, and during that short sleep, I had a dream me and my dad shared a Murci!!!! I was just about to get the keys from him when I woke.
Is this a 'mid-life' form of wet-dream?

White wine definitely does this to me more so than red. I hardly drink white now because of it.

Sounds like you are allergic to Sulfites, they occur naturally in some wines and are added to white wines to keep them from turning dark. My Mother has this allergy and has to shop especially for Sulfite free wine.

Here is more info for you:

Yep I’ve virtually given up on white wine. It makes me so sleepy. It’s bad enough at home but it’s very unpleasant to feel that way in somebody else’s house

Switch to Vodka. Still wake up with a buzzing head and general irratability. The only difference is, six hours later you won't remember it

I know a number of people who have this problem BUT only with Chardonnay (and Chablis is made from Chardonnay grape). Try Sauv Blanc....interesting to see if you get the same effect!

This is it you see; I normally have a botlle of ale each night, something like a Black Sheep or Tim Taylor purely because I enjoy it with my meal. Last night we were having seafood and my wife thinks it would be "nice" if we share a bottle of white.
I'll try Sauvignon Blanc but I normally find this a bit pallid. Interestingly Rosés never have this effect on me.
Thanks for the advice people. Didn't know the Chab and Chards are same grape. That explains the common reaction then.
