Hi

I have a low mileage (4500 miles) 2006 1.8 Roadsport SV

I'm certain the foam has not been replaced. I've studied much regarding this issue and intend to fit a new one as opposed to remove.

So sump needs to come off. The original sump gasket is quite thick rubber as standard.

Some owners have re-used the gasket however I opted for a new gasket from Caterham.

The new one received is now very thin with a rubberised coating on both sides of the steel centre piece.

Are they any good? Will it leak in anyone's experience?

Shall I instead use the old one?

Your description of the new one is more akin to the type of gasket usually fitted, I wouldn't describe any o/e I've seen as "quite thick rubber". I stand to be corrected though!

As above, the normal gasket is a thin laminated gasket, two layers of vinyl surrounding a steel shim.

OK thanks Gents

My bad. I thought the fitted gasket was a few MM thick.

I'll drop sump and fit the new one when I swap the foam.
