A3 2015-16 - What's the best petrol engine?

My son's considering an A3 hatch, around £13k.

What's the best engine for a combination of power, delivery, economy?

He has a 2015 Cooper S at present.

1.8T goes well in those; 1.4T no slug either. Larger engine can be had with quattro too.

Coming from a Cooper S you'd probably want the A3 with the 2.0 TFSI. I borrowed the 190PS version in Quattro form last year and it went pretty well.

The smaller engines aren't bad but will feel slower than the Cooper S.

The 190ps is only available in the facelift 8V if I stand correct?

You are correct, until the facelift largest 'normal' A3 petrol is the 1.8
