Touareg stop-start issue

The stop-start warning light has come on in my wife's Touareg. Wife panicking that the car is going to let her down (and to be fair, she does commute 70 miles each way in to the Peak District). It happened back in about March, too, and we changed the battery. Any advice on common causes to look out for please?
