Mk5 Golf GTI suspension rattle quandary

Hi all
My 2006 Golf is making an increasingly bad rattling noise from the front off-side suspension. It stops when you steer right but is pretty constant up to about 40mph when going straight or steering left. This is it:

Anyone got an idea what the problem could be? My local independent garage has said they can’t figure it out unless they do a lot of investigative work.
