M6 GC/M5 Tyre Options
Discussion
Hi All,
Looking for some advise on my M6 GC. I have had the car for a year now and have had a some what love hate relationship with it regarding traction. I don't want this to turn into a discussion about my right foot being in my control.
I really enjoy the car when its dry and espeically when the tyres are warmed up. This nicely brings me round to my recent experience of the car when I took it on a 300 mile road trip in scotland, outside temp was around 20/21 degrees and I am sure the tyre temps were around 27-30 degrees as per the idrive.
The car drove splendid, with each corner I built up so much confidence as it just gripped the tarmac and slung me out of corners, it was utterly brilliant. For the first time I felt like I truely loved the car and got to see what it could do.
This brings me to my next point as my MPSS tyres are all getting to around 4.5mm and i am tempted to ditch them for the 4S tyres if they can make the improvement I want them to make.
Before the road trip I was planning the sell the car within the next month or so but I am now thinking if I can overcome this issue with the traction to some degree then I would happily keep the car as I love everything else about it.
Has anyone else made this switch and has it made the difference I need it to make?
Ps, this car is a daily hence I need to be able to use it all year round.

Not on a M6/M5 but I until very recently had an M4. This came from the factory on MPSS and when they wore out I replaced with MP4S. Both great tyres. In summary I think the MPSS are a more track focussed tyre. whilst the MPSS was fine in the wet/colder weather the 4S was better in inclement weather conditions. It was also quieter. However the MPSS has the edge in terms of feel and warm/dry weather. Overall I think both Michelin’s are the probably the 2 best tyres on the market.
I have put 4S on the front of my M6GC about 4 months ago and they are very good and a massive improvement on the previous which I think were Pirielli but TBH can't actually remember now doh! I have MPSS on the rear put on by BMW following an emergency, they would not put 4S on as they weren't an approved tyre for the M6GC apparently
Mine is a daily driver too so winter grip will be important up to a point when the wife's X3 is a more sensible choice
