Doh,connected battery terminals the wrong way round! 98 Polo
Discussion
I've had the exes old 1998 1.0 Polo on my drive for a good few months now, and needless to say the battery was flat. She doesn't want it, I debated scrapping it, but figured it might make a decent runaround. Decided to charge the battery overnight and try to start it today.
In a moment of pure brainfart, I've managed to put the battery in the wrong way round, and momentarily loosely connected the terminals the wrong way, before almost instantly discovering my mistake and rectifying it. Having swapped it round, I attempted to start the car and....nothing. Took the battery back off, and connected to the charger which went straight to maintenance mode, so I assume that's not knackered.
What am I likely to have knackered?

Check the fuses and fusible links.
Most car electronics is protected against reverse battery connection by activating a short circuit which blows the fuse. In some cases, the upstream "fusible links" can blow as well. With a bit of luck, it's just the fuses/links that sacrifice themselves.
