C8 not due for release in europe for another 9 months,due out in US ON 18TH OF THIS MONTH,entry level $70-80k thats probably the v6 not the twin turbo V8 cross plane crank version,if it was for top gear i wonder if chris harris will praise it as hes a porsche/mclaren fan,im surprised they didnt test the 755bhp ZR1 C7
Sounds to me more like GM were doing some benchmarking of the new C8 against a McLaren, and on UK roads, which is a really good sign.
Cars developed on our roads is usually a good thing, as we have some pretty challenging B-road surfaces.
I also spotted it had all gone a bit quiet about C8 on CCCUK website. I have posted quite a lot on this over the years. Perhaps people are just bored of the same discussions, and just waiting for the reveal now. I can't wait to see it, I think it will be great, and completely understand the reasoning behind going mid-rear engined.

No v6, it has an LT2 which is an update of the current LT1 NA V8 making more HP. Likely over 500. Really hard to give up all the advantages of that engines series. I have ticket to go to the launch in Orange County. Should be fun, can’t believe GM is announcing in my area but I will take it.

RHD .. excellent, lets see what UK prices are. The Mustang success has them gagging for some extra sales.
I do like the GPS enabled front lifter .. very clever as long as it always works !
No leaf springs either.

It depends who your target market is. For most Vette owners in the UK and Europe, the American-ness was a huge part of the appeal. Take that away and you lose some potential owners, but gain others (especially with RHD). For me (as a previous C5 and C6 owner) it doesn't really appeal. It's just yet-another mid-engined car, it's less viable as a daily-driver (which both of mine were), and it'll be expensive. I'd be amazed if UK cars (which are always high-spec compared to the "rubber mats and hub caps" US base cars) come in at much less than £100k. Be interesting to see what they do about dealer network as well - typically the Achilles heel of the Vette experience (either bad, short-lived or scarce). And finally, what is it about people hating leaf-springs??? Ah, of course...they don't understand how suspension works so equate it with live-axle cars from yesteryear...I do like the GPS enabled front lifter .. very clever as long as it always works !

That's simply not true and/or irrelevant.Saying the Mustang stopped in 1973 with the last Mach 1 is like saying the Vette stopped in 1967 with the last C2. And just as the Vette improves with every version, so does the Mustang (if we exclude Mustang II and the later years of the C3). I've owned a C5 and a C6 and now a Mustang GT. All were/are great cars but they compete in different segments.
And finally the C8 is no more a Corvette than I am the Pope. Sorry, but it's true. Sticking a pushrod V8 in something and putting the flags on it doesn't make it a Vette.
