I've got a 728i E38 '96 BMW. I stupidly purchased a set of original BMW 18" 15- multispoke alloys which I was assured would fit - I drove 200 miles to pick 'em up, tried the back only - and aggghhh!!! ON getting home and fitting the fronts I find they foul on the callipers. I guess I could fit a spacer but have no idea where to start or what effect it would have on the handling. Please help........!!!!!!

(a link to a pic of the wheels appears below)

Try Surbiton Tyre and Wheel on 0208 391 1349... They are really experienced, and if they don't know, they'll find out for you...

Cheers Loudpedal. I gave 'em a whirl (very helpful) and they say the official line is apparently a 2000 year wheel won't fit on my '96 728. I feel sick. The backs seem fine, it's just the offset at the front that's the problem. Is there no way I can use a spacer? Or is this dangerous?

You can use spacers and as long as its not too much your should be okay. The maximum spacer I personally would use is 8mm. Don't forget that if you use spacers you need to change the bolts for longer versions (I would also recommend strengthened if they are available) Also after fitting it might be worth getting your wheel alignment checked (but that should be obvious )

The only effect you get is that you put a little more strain on axels/bolts/hubs etc. (bit of physiscs force multiplied by distance on a pivot). But should be well within spec.

Hope that helps

I think 8mm may just be enough to clear the callipers - but how much is 'enough'? Failing that does anyone want a set of four 18" Year 2000 BMW alloys at £800 (including tyres!)

Four x Year 2000 18" BMW 15-spoke alloys (as seen on late seven/eight series) complete with rubber (tyres range from slightly worn to excellent). Bought in error (do not fit Pre Sept 98 facelift 728) - hence just £800. (The tyres alone are worth that!!)

PLEASE don't make my mistake and either make sure they fit your car or else make sure you are happy to have them fitted with spacers (most people are but I'd rather not!).
