CV8 Power steering pipes
Discussion
I ended up ordering mine directly from eBay Australia when mine went due to not being able to get it from the uk. I used these people, this pipe is for a 04 cv8, but if you message them with vin number, build date, engine and chassis codes from your vin plate, and what pipe you need they will send you a link to the suitable pipe. For info no uk cars have variable steering as they asked me this.

Got the pipe within a week, and got stung for import tax as well so take this into account. Really helpful people and would happily use them again. Wish I would’ve done this first as car was off the road for best part of a month trying to find a uk based pipe.

I have replaced the pipes with Pirtek items and a mixture of original rack connections ( the Pirtek fittings were too large to connect into the rack ).
On initial startup the rack was quite noisy and on full lock the rack was chattering quite badly. I presumed this to be air in the system and after several minutes it seemed to steady its self down. Took it for a drive and all seemed well until I began some low speed turns and the rack again became noisy ( and is continuing to be so )
Questions : 1. The Pirtek pipework is a larger diameter than the original steel pipe. Is it possible the pump is having trouble moving sufficient fluid around the rack ?
2. Could the pump have become faulty during this work ? The car was driven half a mile to the garage with a leaking pipe but there was fluid in the pump reservoir on arrival so it didnt run empty.
3. If it is indeed the pump, does any one have a contact who could refurbish mine or worst case a contact to buy a new one.
Any help or opinions greatly aoppreciated,
Thanks Gaz

i take it you did lock to lock many times to release air.
the correct way is to run for 5 secs ,refill and keep doing so ,to release air without forming bubbles
I cant say about the hoses , but theres a breaker called brett. who may have a 2nd hand one.
or rock auto can supply new ones within 2-3 days with fedex

2. anything is possible, but unless run dry for some time, very unlikely.
3...much harder.
As above though, ensure system is bled via lock-lock a few times and with new clean fluid. And ensure you retain a cooler of some sort in the system.

3. I had loads of issues with my VXR, cooler part in front of the radiator leaked so cut that out and replaced with a hose. Then the next weak point was found by the fluid literally 10 minutes later so I got a high pressure hose made up and done away with all the rotten metal. a week later another leak (at this point a lighter and petrol looked inviting) anyway after changing all the hose putting an aftermarket cooler in it ended up being the pump, changed that and no more issues. On initial startup the rack was quite noisy and on full lock the rack was chattering quite badly.
