So, my traction control light has come on and won't go off after I went over a speed bump a little 'enthusiastically' ;). I'm absolutely certain it's down to the software being confused by the rear wheels being airborne for a brief moment.
Anyhow, I thought I'd drop into my local BMW dealer this lunchtime so they could plug in the box of tricks to confirm this, and then clear the fault (or book me in to fix it if it's not software). Call it a 5 minute job, tops.
However, they want to book me in to diagnose the fault, at a cost of half an hours labour - an eye watering £60! £120/hour labour charge?
Needless to say, it's going to my local specialist the weekend instead.
So - is £120/hour a common charge with BMW dealers?

Daft, quite daft - every other garage I've ever dealt with (Mazda, Vauxhall, Alfa Romeo even) have done a 5 minute diagnostic for free - hell, if they find something they know I'm going to book it in with them, and they already know there's a fault!
My local Alfa specialist had a previous car in for a morning, looked all around it and gave it back saying there was nothing wrong without charging me anything.
Anyhow, it's back to the specialist I got it from Saturday morning to have the error checked and the light reset gratis. If it comes on again, obviously there's a fault, and I'll pay to have it sorted.
Just greatly surprised that a diagnostic was something they'd charge for, and how much they wanted!
