Hello all,

I have a 2004 Audi A3. It has the original stereo fitted and no aftermarket stuff like Bluetooth, mobile phone connector etc. It is as the day it left the factory.

It has developed a problem whereby the stereo continues to draw power after the car is switched off and locked. The red lights inbuilt continue to glow.

A fault code 00858 arose. Connection: Radio ZF output to antenna amplifier - sporadic 011 - open circuit.

Has anyone had this fault before and how did you go about fixing it? I gather the antenna is located in the tailgate and I'm loathe to remove the trim unnecessarily incase it's something else, perhaps a faulty stereo itself, for example.

Thank you in advance for any help or advice offered.

You're going to have to work through things logically - start with the easy, and move onto the more difficult / hard to access items.

Error 00858 - Connection; Radio IF Output to Antenna Amplifier: Open Circuit

Possible Symptoms
Radio Tuner not working

Possible Causes
Wiring/Connectors from/to Antenna Amplifier faulty
Antenna Amplifier incompatible/faulty

Possible Solutions
Check Wiring/Connectors from/to Antenna Amplifier
Check Measuring Value Blocks (MVB)
Check Antenna Amplifier
Check Antenna Amplifier Part Number for Compatibility

Ignition switch failures are very common on this model and can cause the radio to stay powered on.

Dr G - thank you for that. Would there be any other symptoms likely to be associated with it?

Dr G - seems you were right. A bit of WD40 on the ignition key, multiple in and outs and after clearing the fault code I have a well behaved radio again. Thank you for your help. smile
