A338 (Salisbury to Ringwood stretch) hero..!!

Ok, bit of a random post this one, but as this is a site for car enthusiasts I am sure proper car fans wont mind.
Each morning I travel from Ringwood to Salisbury to work and pass going in the other direction a Y reg Jaguar XJ-S, which is "making progress" to coin a motoring cliché. It always makes me smile seeing one of my childhood hero cars being driven as it maker intended, because its so rare these days to see one of the cars.
Not sure if the owner is a PH'er but in the hope that he is, just wanted to say that I doff my cap to you, whoever you are, for brightening up my daily commute, when I'm normally stuck behind the train of cars on that road, few of whom seem capable of noticing the 60MPH limit on some stretches !!

Sorry, but the few parts of that road that are 60mph, would not see any noticeable reduction in travel time if one was able to go that fast.
A few years ago, nearly the whole stretch was NSL, however, some people decided to kill themselves driving too fast on it.
So, I for one am glad they reduced the limits on that f
king hateful road.

I'm honestly not surprised there are so many deaths on the road. A lot of the corners on the Ringwood-Fordingbridge stretch are still 60mph & it's easy to see people going into these too fast & it ending messily. There are also a lot of junctions coming onto it just after corners, where collisions are likely with cars moving at 60mph & limited visibility out of the junctions. Parts of it could easily justify a lower limit than at present.

I use it to take Learners on it, great road for training forward obs, and "getting on with it".....yep have also seen some dicks on it too.
Wave if you see a white mini with "FUN" on the plate..... I don't let my learners "hold everyone up" they will be driving to limits where they can owing to the weather,other traffic etc....

I don't know what the accident statistics show, but on the Ringwood - Fordingbridge stretch which is where some of the sharp bends & blind junctions are it feels like there are regular accidents. A fair few of which are late night with teens just coming off of the road.They have straightened out some of the bends that didn’t really need doing, mainly north of Downton.

I'm so old I've known the road since the 1950's & it was a notoriously dangerous road then with accidents & deaths almost on a weekly basis.
Have travelled it in everything from a sit-up-and-beg Ford Popular my Dad borrowed from a friend to a modern-day supercar & the hateful road has never got better despite some minor improvements plus the essential Fordingbridge by-pass.
Progress was & is at the expense of the slowest vehicle & overtaking a total waste of time so the limiting of speed was inevitable well before the current limits were imposed.
Only if I have no absolutely no alternative when I'm back in that part of the world do I use it & then with the greatest of caution which means I could be the one pottering at or below whatever is the posted or otherwise speed limit. Tough on tailgaters maybe but my life, that of my passenger & the preservation of my nice car comes first.
