Yes I read this in Today's Telegraph, apparantly many criminals released early on licence are being returned to prison for committing crimes. Which begs the question how much crime would be prevented with longer sentences, which are actually applied?

I keep saying that prison is not a deterrent or a punishment and it will not correct people. Prison is a place you keep sociopaths. When you let them out they commit crimes. We need to put a lot more people in prison and keep them there longer if we want to have a decent society. This policy has worked well for the US states that have done it.

That is my own personal view, prison does not prevent people reoffending, it does not reform people-it is a place you keep the scum in their prime offending years.

I disagree slightly with the above 2 posts. I think prison is a deterant but the current sentences arnt.

i.e If you got 15 years for stealing a car no matter what age you were how many 16 year old would do it?

The same number that offend now, no one thinks they will get caught, they are always the clever ones etc.

Just lock em up for a long lomg time, stops em committing more while there.
