Hi forum,

Due to family needs, it's time to go 7 seat. The Touran seems to fit the bill, but i'm quite out of touch with current / recent VW engines.

Am i right to think the 1.6 TDi would be totally awful on a motoway? Would the 150 2l TDi remap to the higher output like the old 1.9's did? When i had my old passat from memory you could remap it to either ibiza FR or Cupra spec and as long as you adopted the shorter intervals they were fine?

Lastly, are there any must have options to keep an eye out for? Last time i was looking at VW's there were 3 major trim levels with the bottom being awful - i guess that won't have changed..

We have a 2.0TDI Family Touran on lease and it's fantastic. We have it on 3 year lease for about £260 a month with 6 months deposit.

Highly recommended.... I don't think i will ever buy a diesel again, as once Electric becomes truly mainstream they (IMHO) be worthless.

The 2.0 tdi in 150 and 184/190 format are based on the same design (they are the EA288 family) but there are other changes between outputs other than map. The 150 engine can be remapped to around 180-190ish still though, but I think you would be pleasantly surprised with the 150bhp engine, it only has 30 lb/ft torque less than the old 2.0 170 tdi PD engines and is much more flexible.

Blimey you did well there - I've been looking and they're usually a good £100/mth more.

Wife has the 150 engine with DSG in a Tiguan and it goes well enough - but it's not an engine for nipping past traffic on a fast A road.

The dealer had 3 or 4 cars with no choice in options. and they made I think something like £800 contribution. Was an amazing deal. I think they were having problems shifting diesels at the time.
