First competitive run in 'new' toy
Discussion
Surprise last minute entry to a local sprint today in my recently acquired Superlight R, had an absolute blast!
I haven't competed in anything for near 3 years..... And forgot just how much fun a fairly quick seven can be! Insane fun.
Gives me a few pointers for set up work needed... And will treat it to fresh tyres... As the 12 year old ACB10s are arguably passed their best! Lol
I know kumho are popular (but hard to get?) was maybe thinking Avon ZZR, I imagine soft would be OK for short (up to 15 min) races?

Mel Williams ( he is on FB) sells Khumos, he is www.melwilliamstyres.com
Thanks guys.... will look into the kumho availability vs. ZZR, and maybe TOYO 888
Yes Graham. For sure will need a camber change, ultimately will be radials whatever I buy so can we change regardless... will be great to get the little thing sitting on fresh rubber! Was an absolute laugh yesterday!!

Soft compound (A24) ZZR's would be too soft for a 15 min race.
I've known the second driver on sprints of a dual driven car on soft ZZR's complain of the tyres having gone off! (where super soft Kumhos were better for the second driver).
If you need tyres to last a 15min race, then even soft Kumhos may still be too soft.
If you're sprinting or hillclimbing in the UK, then soft ZZR's or any Kumhos are no longer list 1b tyres.

taking shape.........
diff oil, gearbox oil, engine oil all flushed & replaced.... same for coolant system. all new belts inc timing. new air filter, new tyres.... new front wheel bearings, FIA compliant extinguisher, new lightweight HANS compatible belts...
also had a new gearknob fabricated.. the std knob on the quaiife is very short/low.. prefer more leverage on a sequential gearbox.
wired up a switch for the fan too, help control temps.. and get oil up to temp before runs etc.
full set up & corner weights done....... nearly ready for some track work now... couple of minor things still to sort.
i also finally got myslef sorted with a superb Jack... 75mm low saddle to 608mm reach :-) so also treated myself to 24" chassi stands - its superb having a car up so high... especially with my f@cked back.
cant wait to get out for my first race.. hopefully end of July

Hey Andy,
No, I originally was aiming for it.... But makes more sense to take my time and TRY SHIRTER 15 min races at home first.
Hopefully getting out end July..
Oh, I don’t know - can’t beat seat time! 2 x 15 min practice/qualy and 2 x 30 min races (as opposed to the normal 40 min race). Mag 7s have pit garages at this meeting, too, and I THINK there is a BBQ on the Saturday night. No, I originally was aiming for it.... It’s not too late to enter!
