Steering rack replacement audi a6 avant

Hi - ive had a 2012 A6 avant for 9 months and a warning light came on for the steering saying fault but ok to drive - its only done 66k miles - its been diagnosed as a fault with the steering rack control unit so the steering rack needs replacing and coding - price £2,200 - £1800 is for the new steering rack that im told has to be audi.

can anyone suggest a cheaper option - second hand steering rack (am i mad to consider ?) or other make - im told both cant be done due to coding issues - help appreciated - based in Warwick

Sounds like you need a garage with either VAG-dealer hardware, or solid experience with VCDS.

It's not the simplest job out there to recode it all, but it's doable,
