Some live sets from R1 Big Weekend

Some of them are individual songs, some full sets.
One of the best (and bear with me here!) is Miley Cyrus's set. She's got a great voice, and now she's matured is very professional, looking extremely comfortable on stage. Fan or not, it worth a listen. If you like DnB there are few places you'll hear Wilkinson, Sub Focus and Dimension going back to back, although half an hour really isn't long enough for the 3 of them.
As for the worst? Mark Ronson's DJ set. Terrible. Badly matched tunes with beats all over the place, and distinctly average song selection. A lot of bedroom DJ's could do better.

I watched some of it realised how out of touch I am with the young ones music. Not only had I not heard of many of them, I thought most were rubbish.
I was surprised to learn how popular Billie Eilish is. Who would have thought mumbling into a microphone would be so big?
I still don't understand the hype around Lewis Capaldi. It just seems that social media told everyone to like him and everyone jumped on the bandwagon.
The 1975 just bore me. Every song sounds exactly the same. Sean Paul is irritating.
Sigrid sounded good. Her energy is infectious.
I was surprised to learn how popular Billie Eilish is. Who would have thought mumbling into a microphone would be so big?

Tend to agree RE Billie Eillish. Lewis Capaldi however is funny. Have a look at his Instagram or Facebook accounts and he very obviously doesn't take himself very seriously. Rightly or wrongly, pop music has always been about cultivating an image and persona. Lewis Capaldi is very good at it for the Instagram generation, even if it leaves most of the population behind. I'm Scottish and know all the slang terms. I find that video cringeworthy, unoriginal and not at all funny.
Same with his R1 big weekend story about his penis chafing on his jeans. It felt like long drawn out stories to pad a 30 minute set.
I seem to have missed most of it this year, other than one or two bits on the radio. Usually it's quite entertaining trying to guess how long it'll be before the plug gets pulled on the live broadcast because they can't stop themselves swearing. Maybe that's why there were more "highlights" from recordings than actual live stuff this time.
I felt the same a few years ago about "Florence and the machine" when she was new, to me she just seemed out of tune at Glastonbury, and it was particularly annoying as they just kept repeating her and the other next big thing, "Bombay Bicycle Club", all night. I might have been in a bit of a grump, though, because I recorded nine hours of overnight live broadcast hoping my all-time favourite band of all time might have been shown but no, let's have Florence again.

Ok, well whatever you think about it at least he has a personality which people can relate to. And he doesn't take himself seriously. Compared with the airbrushed, staged, manufactured, pop from the likes of Little Mix he presents an unassuming, honest, alternative. I'm Scottish and know all the slang terms.
