Lady VW owner needs help!!

Golf GT TDI 170 (07 plate)
At 1200 rpm or lower at a speed of 50 or there abouts in 5&6th gear car judders badly. Does it also at 2500 rpm at about 60 also in 5&6th gear..... it's really bad when I'm asking for more power. The juddering is like when a car stalls. There are no warning lights that come on when it happens. And it's been serviced last week. Dianogtics are clear.
There is from time to time, NOT when the car is Juddering, just cruising, the ABS and skid warning light comes on for a few mins then goes off. What the hell is wrong with my beloved VW! Please help, thanks in advance.

It's a serious question!! What do you mean 'How did I manage to pass my test'.... do you mean How did the car pass being serviced?
If that's what you're asking it passed (and it's valid also with MOT) because when the car is not under load, just everyday cruising (pottering around) it does not do it. But only does it when as stated, "When I ask for more power from it"!. I'm looking for a VW boffin who may know if this is a 'thing' that happens with these models of cars that are now classed as old, on a 07 plate. The garage was going to charge me a fortune to start investigating, taking the engine apart but said they may not even find the problem as there are no warning lights to say there's a problem!

You’re asking too much of your engine, low speed and high gear means you’re simply not in a good operating “window” for the engine. I had exactly the same car and you do need a few more revs - change down a gear. If it still does it you may have a problem.
Ignore the sarcastic PH trolls.
Edited to add: mine suffered glow plug issues when it was younger and the occasional “over-boost” but that was accompanied by a warning light. If you don’t have one then it’s not that.

Thanks guys for you 'civil' replies!!
Im definitely in the right gear for the speed, I think I've just not explained it well! I've had VW's for over 20yrs so I know what they're capable of. It just occurs as you rightly have said, when I'm pottering around at a low speed in a cruising gear..... then I change down and it still judders. Sometimes I have to get into a high gear (2nd) to clear it....even if I'm on the flat! If it happens when on an incline when asking for more power (and I have changed down) then I'm holding my breath.
It used to fly up hills no problem in 6th!
Any other thoughts on what it can be?

Are you sure you are in the correct gear, 1200rpm in 5th and 6th gear could be labouring the gearbox. Juddering is the gearbox telling you to select a lower gear maybe?

I had a similar issue with my mk6 - the dual mass flywheel was weak and failing.
But basically, the car is in the wrong gear. You need to be in a gear lower than you are currently in for the driving conditions
1200rpm, maybe, but if the same is happening at 2500rpm then I don't think this is just don't to engine labouring / wrong gear. That engine should pull happily at 50/60mph in 5th/6th gear (it should be capable of easily accelerating from about 40mph in 6th, albeit not with much gusto initially!)But basically, the car is in the wrong gear. You need to be in a gear lower than you are currently in for the driving conditions

How many miles on the car? Is the dual mass flywheel starting to break down causing the clutch to oscillate on the end of the crankshaft? I had mine changed at 100k while fixing a clutch issue and it felt smoother.
There's 120k on the clock. Oh crikey!!! None of that sounds gd, or cheap! Just as a rough guide, if it's something along the lines of what you've said, how much do you think it would cost? SteBrown91 said:

I know it sounds as if I'm 'blonde' and driving in the wrong gear, but I'm really not! I'm a VW girl thru and thru, had them for 20yrs, so I've got a gd idea of how they drive. But if you think it's a flywheel problem, how much would it be do you think to get sorted? There's 120k on the clock, is this something that would typically happen around this time, given the age of the car? But basically, the car is in the wrong gear. Tiger 1...... Thanks for recognising I'm not 'blonde'!! Ive never had any probs before with driving it the way I do, it used to fly up inclines with so much torque from a cruising along speed, and as you rightly said, yes at times I would have to change from 6th to 5th initially but pretty much straight back into 6th still going up the incline and still with loads of torque..... what do you think it could be?Fore Left said:

k me, does anyone actually read past the first sentence of the first post? Yes, the engine might be labouring at 1,200 rpm, but probably not as it's a diesel. It definitely shouldn't be doing it at 2,500 rpm. I've no idea what the problem is but at least I read the whole post
God bless ya for reading it all!!

Dual mass flywheel, that engine is more than happy at 1200 r.p.m., it's what it was designed for , eco driving at low revs with lots of torque to pull it up if it needs it.
Thanks for recognising I'm not driving it like a 'blonde' idiot!! Dual mass flywheel..... that's not sounding gd. How much do you think it would cost. There's 120k on the clock. Is it worth fixing?
