Towbar - Audi S4
Discussion
Hi all, I bought an B9 S4 avant recently and was thinking of getting a towbar fitted. Contacted my local Audi dealer (Aberdeen Audi) and have been quoted £1,608. I knew it would be expensive but not that expensive.
Just looking to see if anyone else has had a towbar fitted to and how much they paid to gauge if £1,600 is in the right ball park.
As the car is still under manufacturers warranty, would I invalidate the warranty if I went to an independent garage rather than a franchise dealer. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

Before they decided to make it a diesel I had a deposit down on an S4 earlier this year and specced a tow bar. Was coming in at £800 factory fitted. Cost is high because it folds away and has a electrically operated button inside the boot to release it.
I'm assuming the high cost quoted by the dealer is to retro-fit all this sort of thing. Assuming it is the same one as the one that's available to spec on a new car.

Yes, it's a folding towbar that is being retro fitted.
Spoke to the dealer and they are saying that getting this fitted by an independent will affect the warranty. The car is only a year old and I would rather keep the warranty intact just in case.
They have agreed to reduce the price by a few hundred pounds so I am just going to have to swallow it.
If the car had been out of warranty then no way would I be paying the dealer price.

I had a third party one fitted to my B9, sent it to the garage where the Audi dealer send theirs, I very much doubt they would invalidated the warranty unless there was a direct issue caused by the towbar.
B9's need an additional box which adds to the cost but you should be able to get a decent removable one for £600.
