A Panel replacement

Hi there,
Popped over from the TVR forum for a bit more advice.

My brother in law has been let down badly regarding replacing an A panel on his Mk3, the panel has been cut away, flanges cleaned and the door removed, and has a new a panel. I'm confident with using a MIG, but have'nt worked on a Mini shell before,and want to try and help him out.

Should the door be refitted first to check alignment and size? I assume it's a pattern part.

I guess the trailing edge of the A needs to be folded like a door skin edge over the A post hinge panel , with the diagonal and bottom flanges plug welded.

Any advice much appreciated.

Unsure on the latter, but definately have the door in place for alignment.
