I posted in panic a few weeks ago that I had gone to release the engine cover and that the cable had come out in my hand. The workshop manual says you need to remove the rear wheel and wheel arch liner to acces the catch. Did that, but it only gave access to the bottom of the engine and was more suited to a repair where the cable was still attached and you could get hold of it to pull and release the catch. My mechanic rang the dealer and after a bit of head scratching one technician remembered dealing with one before and required them to take off the rear number plate and drill a small hole, then insert a very long and very thin screwdriver to release the catch. Solderless nipple had come away. The garage rebraided the cable and reattached it. £30.
