El Beast is dead....
Discussion
Words (almost) fail me.
Driving home today after a great weekend just braked from a 40 into a 30 minding my own business when BANG some numptie in a Fiesta went for the gap between my drivers door and the air intake, slammed into the car, span me 180deg into a kerb and killed el Beast.
Have some pics taken on a chuckaway and will post as soon as they are developed and scanned but I think it's a write-off.
Damage I could see:
- Rear clam (drivers side torn open, wheel pushed back through arch)
- Front clam (smashed from wheelarch line all the way back)
- Side intake torn open
- Drivers door cut/slashed
- N/S Rear wheel snapped where it hit the curb
- O/S Rear wheel buckled and bent from impact
- Rear end all bent out of shape
Basically, at best there are now only 21 of 22 Type 79's still alive.
I am gutted, but (bar whiplash and an acheing back) ok. Here's hoping Adrian Flux and NIG are worth the premium and get me a 100% fault-free claim and resolution asap so I can get another one.

Sorry to hear about that, it was a beauty - as long as you are ok. Seems there are a few of us having a testing time at the moment.
As you know, I’ve had mine back a few weeks now but I’m afraid I have lost confidence in other drivers seeing me.
Just end up polishing it!
I’m sure there will be another one out there with your name on.
All the best
Geoff

Gutted to hear about this Tim
I hope you make a full recovery from your aches and pains soon.
The car on other hand sounds beyond recovery... still, looking on the bright side, somebody else has made that very difficult decision for you. You know, the one where you just can't bring yourself to decide it's time to change your pride and joy.
So what'll it be next?

Thanks all, really p!ssed off (obviously) but it was a tough little b*gger and bore the brunt and protected me.
I'm hoping his insurance (elephant) will do the right thing, get me a courtesy car etc. while the claim is sorted.
I also hope I will not suffer ANY loss from increased premiums from having to declare this (even tho it's no fault on my front).
As you note though, I'll be shopping for another Liz as soon as possible once I have a decision on compensation. I think it'll have to be a Norfolk Spice one this time so I can be seen from way away!!
It was just so sad to see that beautiful car smashed to sh!t. I hope I'll be allowed to get the hurricane B&C back box and a few other bits off of it. The seats for instance would be nice to keep.
At the moment I have a part of a smashed and buckled wheel in my front room as a momento - perhaps I'll get it melted down and made into a medallion

Thanks Geoff - get back in the saddle mate, sooner you're on the pony the better. I'm missing mine terribly already.

Gutted for you mate. Its even worse when its not your fault.
Main thing is you are ok.
Has the other party admitted liability? were there any witnesses?
Look on the bright side though. You can now have a look for that S2 111S you were thinking about.
Thanks Davey, you're right, pragmatically I'm just glad everyone walked away.
Other party admitted liability, couldn't not really seeing as he punted me off the road! Lots of witnesses, no-one stopped, one guy helped move the other car and gave me his info but said he only saw the aftermath. Very helpful nice chap though.
S2 111s will be up there on the list but will have to see what settlement I'm offered first. I'll be doing LOTS of test drives over the coming weeks once I know the score from the insurers.

Cheers Iain. I'm thoroughly p!ssed off as you can imagine but I'll be back, hopefully with something lovely and shiny for the July meet... will still come to the June one anyway and try to get some sympathy pax rides from the TVR/Ultima/Cobra crews.

Bad luck. Total sh1t.
Dust yourself down and get back into the saddle as quick as possible.
Good luck

That's about the long and the short of it mate.
Thanks again everyone for the kind words, this place is great, I will return (well I'm still going to be here posting and keeping you updated on the saga!) and hopefully soon will have a nice shiny new baby to show off in.
Can't keep a good man down for long!
I'm gutted for you mate, never nice to be in a car accident. And obviously always worse when it's your pride and joy. The very best of luck in your claim, i hope you get back on Lotus transport soon.
Sounds like quite an impact and i'd recommend getting yourself checked over at the local hospital, just in case anything comes up in the next couple of days. Whiplash has a knack of waiting a day of too and then REALLY aching!
Very best to you, David

Real sorry to hear that, matey - just hope all the insurance goes through ok!
Chin up, and glad you are doing fine (bar sore neck and back, which incidentally I got a £3k cheque for last month after a similar accident in Jan '04. If you are in pain, make the best of a bad situation).
Good luck!
