20 Mellotron Golden Greats
Discussion
Never Let Go - Camel
Watcher Of The Skies/Entangled - Genesis
And You And I - Yes
Maid Of Orleans - OMD
Wonderwall - Oasis (Noel let the cello sound on his M400 run right to the end, so on the final note of his song you can hear it come to a sudden stop as the tape runs out.)
Just about anything by Barclay James Harvest (They pushed their old Mk II down a staircase so they could claim on the insurance and buy a new M300 with the proceeds.)
Me! - Mellotron is all over my home recordings, I can't get enough of it.

I could name dozens of Moodies tracks featuring the Mellotron.
Mike Pinder used to work for Streetly Electronics.
Anything by the late great Woolly Wolstenholme from Barclay James Harvest, a very good friend of Martin Smith at Streetly.Mike Pinder used to work for Streetly Electronics.

Because the M300 used nylon bearings which used to stick, causing the tapes to tangle and break, Woolly preferred not to change stations, so mostly used the same two sounds, Strings A and Strings B. These were only available on the M300 which used 1/4" tapes as opposed to the 3/8" ones on other models. Strings A was two violins in unison (thus slightly smoother than the famous '3 Violins'* on the Mk II), and Strings B was a single violin played very quietly.
Listen to Watching And Waiting by the Moodies as a great example of Strings B (Mike Pinder had just bought a 300) which is one of my favourite Tron sounds.

- Without '3 Violins' the whole genre of Prog Rock would probably not exist!
Some great live Moodies from IoW Festival - featuring Mike and his Mellotron
