I am an American living in Windsor, Berkshire. Been here for 2 1/2 years on business. I am due to go back to the US on July 8th. I am looking to buy the Pontiac GTO, which as you might know is the boring-brother to the Monaro. I am not 100% settled on this car yet as I am not positive I will like everything about it the way that I think I will. There are some things that I will not know until I can see one up close, sit in it, feel the (often poorly reviewed shifter), see how much room is in the boot, how much room rear passengers have, etc.

What I would like to know, is... are there any UK Monaro owners local to me that wouldn't mind showing off your car? I know there are going to be several differences between the Monaro and GTO, but I think they will be similar enough for me to be able to form a decision.

Please contact me here or through email. Thank you!

Hi btrotter, welcome to PistonHeads!

It doesn't seem that there are any Monaro-owning PHers near you. You could do worse than try your nearest Monaro-approved Vauxhall dealer, which is:

Lance Owen
The Roundabout Staines Rd
Feltham, TW14 8RY
Phone: 01784 241901

Map here: www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dll?G2M?X=507941&Y=173411&A=Y&Z=1

That's not too far from Windsor.

Edited to add - the "often poorly reviewed shifter" can be upgraded quite easily so don't let that put you off

Hi Dave,
Are you going to be around this weekend? I would love to come by and look at it.
I am hoping that after seeing yours I will be convinced that it is the car I want and I will go ahead and order one so I have it waiting on me when I get back home. Else I will have to wait until I get to the US and then start searching around for one that is the color I want.
Would you mind sending me an email address or phone number so I can contact you?

Big thanks for allowing me to come and drool over your car.

My email is: btrotter@pobox.com

Thank you,
Brian

Hi Dave,
Just wanted to let you know that I bought a 2005 Pontiac GTO 6-speed today. Unfortunately I am still here in Windsor, but my wife flew back to the US last week and I had put a deposit on the GTO right before she went back. She went to the dealer today to sign the paper work for me, and it is now mine, waiting on me to get back to the US to drive it.
Thanks for letting me take a ride in yours. It certainly helped sell me on it. I will send pics once I am back in the US and am in the drivers seat.

Hi Brian - Congrats etc on the new Pontiac - be sure and let us know what you think of it. I'm sure it will be an absolute blast! Sorry to hear your return trip is delayed. Hope your play in my Mon helped you in your decision! I made a trip to Manhattan on business recently and hired an -05 Mustang V8 - Not quite the spirit, I know, but fun anyway. Itll never be a Chevy!
Take it easy mate and keep in touch!

Dave,

As I think I mentioned when I saw you, I have been debating the GTO for a while. The only thing that was keeping me from getting it is I wasnt sure if the inside would accomodate kids, and I wasnt sure how the gear shifter felt. Being able to have a good look at yours and try out the seats and such really pushed me over the edge towards the Goat (GTO's nickname).

I looked around for a couple weeks and found one that I really liked at a dealer about 15 miles from my US home. Since I had a good 2-3 weeks, I started negotiating with them and figured I didnt have anything to lose by making really low offers on the car. I finally got the dealer to take one of my offers and saved a couple thousand $$'s in the process.

I am so excited about it. The only bad part is, it is there, and I am here. I have 1 more week to go, and I will be behind the wheel shifting the 6-speed gearbox and seeing what 400 horses feels like.

If you ever find yor way to North Carolina (Charlotte), please let me know. I will repay the favor you showed to me and take you for a good ripping around the neighborhood in the Goat.

Dont beat yourself up over the Mustang. Those cars have always sounded so good. I have never been a Mustang fan, but you have to admit they do sound good. They dont compare to a good GM pushrod V8, but they do have a good exhaust note to them.

Best wishes. As soon as I make it back home next week and snap some pictures I will make sure to post them.

Hey Dave,
I am back in the USA now, and the proud owner of an 05 Pontiac GTO. This car is the most fun car I have ever owned. With 400 horses and 400 ft/lbs torque, what isnt there to be fun.

Check the following thread for some pics I posted of it.

Dave: thanks again for your hospitality. If you ever come to the Charlotte area, I will take you for a spin in my GTO.
