Do they actually work, am I the only mug that dribbles along Mile after mile at an indicated 55 only to see people fly past me at 70 or 80
I noticed today that almost all foreign cars were far in excess of 50mph, do our muppets not catch up and prosecute them abroad?
I've heard DVLA provide data to the French for speed fines here for UK cars driven over there and there are drivers receiving fines from the French BUT the UK does not receive the ownewrship data or enforce technological based enforcement by EU drivers. in the UK...not sure if it is true, would not surprise me.I noticed today that almost all foreign cars were far in excess of 50mph, do our muppets not catch up and prosecute them abroad?

I reckon they work mate, as you know I use M20 a lot, not worth taking the risk of going over 54
Averages are less than maximums. If you never go over 54 mph, your average will be close enough to the limit
to be not worth prosecuting. 50 - 51 mph, I'd estimate.
To get an average over 55 mph, and so worth prosecuting, you
would have to do a lot of the journey over 60 mph.
BTW, I notice a very long (13 mile ?) section of speed camera-ed road works westbound
from Ashford to Maidstone. Such a long section so strictly controlled at such
a low speed is, IMHO, dangerous because it induces boredom and so inattention.
Personally, I was so bored, I counted the number of Brit drivers who
seemed to have no idea of the UK "drive left" rule.
It goes without saying that no workers were seen in the roadworks
and evidence of activity was low to non-existant.
It rather spoilt the return from a lovely weekend away in Belgium and France.
Perhaps there should be a limit of five miles or so of speed camera-ed
roadworks. More than that surely can't be all worked on at the same time ?

The reason you did not see any activity is these are not for roadworks but incase we ever leave europe and there is sudden rush to get out of here!If you never go over 54 mph, your average will be close enough to the limit

They were on both sides but removed the one coast bound, but left the one London bound. No idea why!
What they should actually do it’s stop pissing around wasting money on the smart motorway gantry garbage.
Then we would’nt have all the disruption and bogus road works.
The m25 is a more dangerous place with them, with all the stupid sudden drops to 40mph, people slamming on brakes etc.

So case in point today.
I’m doing an indicated 55 on the boring M20 as I reckon that’s about 50mph true. (Give or take?
Audi with German plates right up my chuff. When I move over he speeds past.
2 minutes later a big white Van with Polish plates speeds past at what must have been close to 90 mph.
I’d love to know if they get persecuted but I fear i know the answer to that.

When will the 50/60 limites be gone?
Moving down to folkestone soon and sick of that 14 mile 50 zone.
The work between 3 & 6 is due to be completed March 2020 & then we'll have the 'Smart' motorway with variable speed limits..Moving down to folkestone soon and sick of that 14 mile 50 zone.

There have already been people killed on the M1 smart motorway. The M20 is a disaster waiting to happen.
Doing away with the hard shoulder is madness. Stuck in a huge queue the other day and gues what ...... The plod and ambulance cannot get the injured due to 4 lanes of solid traffic. Genius idea !!
It should also be against the law to carry out road works for such a long stretch. Maybe one junction at a time and then move forward ??

I commute up and down the M20 every day to Jct 7 by bike, if my bike ever breaks down or gets a puncture between Jct 3-7, which it has broken down and had a puncture just before Jct 4 before the road works, I will be screwed - I'm usually in the outside lane so if it does happen, I will just park it against the crash barrier and stand on top of the crash barrier and call for help, safest thing for me to do as I've got no chance of getting across 4 lanes of traffc in rush hour.
there was a report a month or so ago stating the council will not persecute foreign Vehicles as its too long winded and costly to chase them.
yes they do work BTW.
