F10 M5 Buying Advice / Prices
Discussion
Hi Guys,
Fairly new to the forums and been more of an observer but the time has come to ask your tuppence.
I currently run an Alpina D3 BT as a daily but now want to add an f10 M5 to the garage.
It seems that from £23k - £27k one can get one with around 50,000 - 60,000 miles for the 2013 - 2014 model years. Ideally I wouldn't want to shell out much more than £25k. My thinking is that with an extended warranty if going through BMW AU would minimise risk.
What are your views re the 23k - 27k price points for 50,000 - 60,000 mile M5?
Anyone with any views re maintenance costs etc?
Thanks

Hi,
I have had mine about 12 months now and was looking at that year when I bought mine. Price looks about right (though I haven't checked recently) - someone on here wrote an algorithm which should look at the market for you and give you an idea of the right price - sorry don't have a link but im sure someone will be along that does.
I also went AUC because I was keen to have the warranty - if you plan to keep it going factor in that you will ideally want the car on <60k miles when it comes to renew 12 months after you buy it as >60k the ongoing warranty goes up in price massively - but if you have the monthly direct debit option before 60k they don't hike the price (at least atm).
When I renewed the warranty it was £793 annually or about £85/month (that's the <60k price).
2013-2014 was when the facelift came out - I would aim for the facelifted car if possible, though I think likely to have a slight premium.
Only other advice I have is check the service history is right or the warranty wont be valid esp the running in service and try and work out if it gets through oil - I think if the car wasn't driven right over the first few 1000 miles they can use up to 1L oil every 1000 miles which seems a lot!
Enjoy the car hunt!

Absolutely recommend AUC
I had mine 9 months in the end. Great luggage space, reversing camera is helpful and HK sound is much better than standard.
My only issues with the car was traction, this could have been down to the (garbage) p zeros. Greasy or damp conditions were a challenge.
During its major service BMW lent me an M4, completely different car I know but infinitely more playful, felt much lighter and generally more fun.

Hi
Here are a few thoughts after a year, sorry if some of these are things you don't need opinions on, just thought they would interest you.
I've had no faults, 25mpg seemingly regardless of how you drive, 300 quid fully comp, tyres are lasting better than last car. I'm nervous about servicing etc but it does seem a very reliable car. The tyres are cheap too.
It's easy to drive badly, you can drive ludicrously fast without being aware. I have been tailed twice by motorway police for no reason including a creepy night tailgate with their lights off. m cars are probably worth bonus donuts.
The lack of decent engine or exhaust noise is a real shame. You find yourself googling tips and tricks online to make more noise. I don't think I realised how much I missed a good sporty noise.
It's quite hard to get full power down. Lots of squirming even on a warm dry day. The main party trick is 30 to 100+ which is of limited use...
If I did it again my priority would be specification.
I examined all the BMW records when I bought it from main dealer, it was possible to piece together a picture of how it had been treated.
It's probably the 'best' car I've ever owned but I sometimes feel a bit jealous of 5 series diesels who have a more useful car 97.6% of the time.
