Wayhay.
Just passed my theory test this morning. 34 out of 3 not bad for no studying whatsoever and I haven't looked at the highway code in 5 years. (since I took my car test when I was 17)
Its the first step
now all I need to do is my CBT and DA.
Just out of curisity though. One of teh questions that I wasn't sure about was;
what can you use the third lane for in a three lane carrigeway?
a. overtaking only
b. turning right only
c. turning and overtaking
d. avoiding slow volvo drivers or some such rubbish
now it wasn't d (I can't remember what d really was) but which one is it.
I have never come across a three lane carrigeway in Scotland. I'm not sure we have any. We do have two lane roads with chevroned middle bits to slow down in to turn right. You can also use them (illegally) to facilitate overtaking manouvers.
Anyway just wondering
Andy

Cheaky Git ... MOst bikers are glad to let my volvo pass when i creap up behind them @ SCAREY SPEED !!!
Well Done btw with the Theory .... CBT and DA are easy as long as you remember "lifesaver"
!
Well done on the theory test front, the CBT is a doddle if you've ridden before, a little bit of cone dodging, a couple of emergency stops (try to avoid flattening the instructor) then out onto the road to see if you can actually survive for an hour or so! I think the funniest part was the turn in the road, aswell as riding it around you also have to push it! It's the same on the DA test, did mine a couple of weeks ago after putting it off for too many years. Best of luck with both.
andy , da test is piece of p*ss really heaps of lifesavers and just forget about it , your insturctor will probaly take you around the test route a few times so it will be famaliar to you, as long you don't do anything dangerous or silly u will pass .
But pratice that u turns
they do teach good clutch control

Does the U-turn need to be done in one go?, I'm asking cos' I never did any new-fangled test (old-git me!) and there's Nooo way my 916 could do a U-turn in anything less than about 3 lanes (OK doughnut excepted!) even on mini roundabouts I get me thumbs trapped!

Edited to say - Like the new smilies!

Day four of Mrs Mel's DA today, first day out on a 500 and test tomorrow afternoon. She seems to be getting the hang of it but keeps asking questions about bloody "lifesavers". I must say from what shes been taught they seem to have actually cut down on when they are required i.e not needed when turning left which seems suprising, but I just dodge the questions with "ask your instructor it's years since I did mine"
Failed my first two test on the U-turn. First one was just nerves, not enough throttle, stalled it. 2nd one I did on my own bike (SV650S) - the examiner had me push it round first and even with full lock on it was in the gutter at both sides, but he thought it was fine (B
d!) so I cocked that one up too. The third test the examiner took me to 4 different sites before he was satisfied that it would be fair on me as the SV has quite a wide turning circle. Top bloke! Passed that one. Three tests and only 4 riding errors (apart from the two u-turns).
I didn't know you could bump up the curb, I thought that would be an automatic fail too...??
Remember lifesavers on both left and right turns (most important on right turns) and practise the u-turn.
