Wortec remap - first impressions
Discussion
In a word - WOW! :spin:
Met Paul at Picador's this lunchtime with my '04 CV8, also met Cubittus who was there with his '04 VXR. Good to meet you both! :D
The remap takes less than 10 minutes to do, plus a short test drive to check for any tweaks that need applying for your specific car.
The first thing you notice is that the throttle response, particularly at low revs, is far keener and there's virtually no lag. Nail it and it goes!
Before the remap, accelerating from low revs was a gradual process, with the engine slowly waking up until about 3000rpm when you'd get a kick in the back and proper performance. Now that performance is there from idling speed upwards! Particularly from about 1800rpm, you really feel the pull of the extra torque. In 6th at 40mph you can drive with your foot off the gas, such is the torque available. Each gear feels like the one below it used to (so 4th feels like 3rd, etc). Acceleration is smooth right the way up to the red line!
The exhaust note seems to be a bit deeper too (standard exhaust).
The remap gives an amazing improvement to the car's driving characteristics and feel. I thoroughly recommend it to anyone and everyone wanting to wake up the beast under their bonnet.
I should note that I bought the remap through Picador, and Paul did the actual reprogramming. Picador's remap that they advertise is, in fact, Wortec's.
Next step - catback exhaust! Then I'll have both the performance :driving: and sound :ears: that people expect from a big V8 :D

Sure did!
Had a long chat about remaps (and much more) with Paul on Monday and it was a no-brainer really. Today was the earliest he could do it
Holding off on the exhaust side of things for the moment - one thing at a time and all that. Plus it gives me something more to look forward to
Hats off to Wortec for spending the time developing this product, from half an hour in the car this afternoon I can tell you it's been well worth it

Gruffydd, how about a supercharger?
Seriously though I guess the "next step" would be to sort out the breathing - extra hole in the cold air intake, smooth MAF pipe, K&N filters, and upgrade your catback system with performance headers and cats (or even no cats!)
Oh, and then get another remap to go with the new setup
I'd be inclined to get better brakes first, though.
I recall reading on here about an air intake system with individual throttle bodies - one per cylinder! - which Paul tells me is available now, and can help you get 500+bhp normally aspirated!! Way to go!
Edit: here is the thread: www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?p=3&f=69&t=115538&h=0&f=69
What a car!!

M3144, yes Rob has the right number for Picador. You could also get in touch with Paul at Wortec who developed the remap product and know all there is to know about it: email him on paul-at-wortec.co.uk.
The performance improvement from the remap alone depends what you've already had done. On a stock '04 CV8 I'm told I can expect at least +35bhp power and +40lbft torque, and it sure feels like it's delivered
On an '04 VXR it'd be more like a +20bhp improvement, as the PCM has already been tweaked by HSV.
The biggest improvement is in sheer drivability, though. Even if it only brought tiny performance increases the remap is worth it just for the changes to throttle response and the overall feel of the car.
The remap is £399 + VAT and can be booked with Picador. Go for it!

Just to say I'm going to get Graham at Picador to do the Wortec remap and also fit his louder catbak system and a pukka set of headers (CAPA ones I think!) This should well improve my -04 CV8. I'll be sure and tell y'all what I think when its done.
I have also just received my EFI-Live Flash/Scan system for reflashing and scanning the PCM on any LS1 or LS6 engine. Its awesome to see just what is going on in there, and to have access to every damn thing in there. Look forward to trying my own tuning on my pals rollers when I get time. Has anyone else used this tool?

following Friday's remap I reset the trip computer's average mpg. After a weekend of hooning around a mixture of roads and 2 days commuting a 50-mile round trip, the average fuel consumption has settled down at around 21mpg - up from 19mpg before the remap!
At current prices that's saved me about £350 in petrol over the next 12 months... and that's with an extra 35bhp minimum and a bucketload of extra torque! Awesome!
The Wortec remap pays for itself, folks!

From the Harrop website www.harrop.com.au/root_folder/harrop_manifolds/amfd7022-00.html
Assuming this is the correct product...
Manifold and Trumpet assemblies: A$3,850.00 inc GST
Installation Kit: A$1,100.00 inc GST
That's a total of A$4950, or £2,066 at today's rate (not including shipping or import costs).
Not clear from the dyno printout on the website what improvements can be expected from this intake. It looks good though

He he, I'm not a fan of TB's but like to see what the market has to offer. How did yours work, well? I did see a very cool carbon plenum jobbie from Oz.
I could make a similar cross over set up using my lsx head flanges and some trumpets from Tim at ACT. I'd use a throttle on each plenum though. This is how I'm doing my ls7 intake. It all starts at the heads flanges and designs from there. I'll have a single plenum, initially

Moosepig, if that includes the throttles that's a competitive price.
Boosted.
Had my c7 corvette tuned by Paul and in all honesty the car has been 60 times worse since. Just heavier. Gear changes even under heavy acceleration very sluggish compared to before. Travelled two time 4hrs there and back. Paul although very nice.. almost pretended that he didn’t even understand even after showing him from dashcam videos the difference in gear changes and sound (used to be a snapping sharp sound to what is now a fading sound into next gear). Too expensive for such a bad experience. Very unhappy.
