Help me understand this...

I bought an alu injection tank from Caterham to replace the rusting steel one in my car. It's an older Rover/Zetec tank.

My car is on carbs, and has an external facet pump, so some adjustments will be needed. But I'm totally stumped by the design of this tank, how is it supposed to work with an internal pump even?

Am I understanding the layout correctly?

I don't see how the fuel gets to the right side box, where the fuel pump is, once the level is below about half. The baffle (with the one-way flap for the return feed) is welded all around except the top part is open. It's not a completely water-tight weld, but the flow is nowhere near enough in my opinion.
