Hi,
I hope someone can shed some light on the problem i am having, i dont know what to do next.
i own a 2006 A4 TDI Avant, the air con stop working but i was told it might need a regas ,
this seemed plausible so had it regassed by the garage who then said it had gas in already but was a little low,so i agreed to have it vacumed and refiled, i was hoping that this would cure the problem...Alas it didnt.
Next i had it scanned and it showed a fault with a/c pump which is common which was fitted (not cheap).
Anyway still no cold air i was expecting from my vents.
I had it re scanned there is no fault showing and the Econ light can be selected on or off, BUT the air con still doesn't work and no further fault codes are stored????
I dont know what to do next? Anyone got any ideas as to what is going on?

Thanks
joe

Any competent mechanics should be able to fault diagnose this....

New or used pump fitted? Why didn't whoever fitted it do some diagnosis?

Are you capable of doing any fault diagnosis yourself? Got any tools?

Can you verify the power and ground for the compressor?
Check the pressure switch is working?
100% sure it has right amount of gas in? (might still have a leak, condenser is a favourite)

he was using a snap on solus ultra Vehicle diagnostic scanner which he as done a few time's but now i thiink he at a lost but can now only mension it could?? be the air con control panel but i don't think it is as it was all working fine till pump went faulty

i can do some fault diagnosis myself but no proper diagnostic test tools?

i have tryed to verify the power and ground for the compressor which there none the guy who fitted pump and did diagnosis did connect a wire from pump to ground which i have removed been trying to find wire diagram for a/c to trace pump wire's back to back to source as it a cluchless pump with no joy
100% sure it has right amount of gas in as it been done many time's empty then a recas

Christ alive, I'm not an English teacher but read back what you've posted.... Its nigh on gibberish!

It "could" be any part of the system at fault. That's obvious isn't it?

You can either guess and throw parts at it or do some proper diagnosis? Or take it to someone who can.... Sounds like your mate has a fancy scanner but no skills to use.

Start with these first....

Was a new compressor fitted or a used one? If used, sure its OK?

Clutchless pump? Are you sure?

12v at the compressor when switched on?
Good ground for the compressor?
Pressure switch working? (a faulty pressure switch will not allow the compressor to engage as it thinks the system is low on pressure (ie low gas content) and won't stay the compressor for fear of damaging it) verify this by checking the voltage in/out.

he was not a mate it was a garage that did the diagnostic i took it to 3 garage's paid for diagnostic all came back the same showing valve in pump faulty so i had a new pump fitted >NOT BY A MATE< pump is a clutch-Less variable displacement compressor with no clutch on front.
the air con was working fine before pump issue, which is a common issue with them.
the garage as said they have checked and only thing they can see at moment is power to pump and said it could be AIRCON HEATER CLIMATE CONTROL PANEL.

sadly due to lack of help i had to get a diagnostic test from audi at a cost of £160 who confirm the new pump was again at fault

I've just had the same pump swapped on my B7 Avant oil burner. Was directed to a new Hella unit by my garage off the 'Bay at £205 delivered as about £100 less than their supplier. With fitting and re-gas, still not as scary as I'd feared.

Sounds more like a lack of good garage(s) than a lack of help here.
