oil and filters for my 1998 996
Discussion
How many miles has it done?
Millers Oils NANODRIVE CFS 10w-50 NT+ Full Synthetic is a good bet for an engine with any sort of wear on it - it's recommended by Hartech, who's experience of the M96/97 is pretty much second to none.
Filter - it's a Mann filter as OE - so one of those will do nicely. If you've never done it before, you'll need the tool to remove the filter:

Exactly that. ^^^
Not cheap but the best protection you can give your engine.
Don’t skimp on the filter. Main dealer or Mann only.
My Indy had at least two customer Boxsters die years ago due to someone (not my Indy obviously!) fitting cheapo oil filters.
They’re a tubular paper design and they’d literally collapsed and sucked flat and starved the engine.

54,000 from new - all documented - not bad for a 20 year old car?Millers Oils NANODRIVE CFS 10w-50 NT+ Full Synthetic is a good bet for an engine with any sort of wear on it - it's recommended by Hartech, who's experience of the M96/97 is pretty much second to none.

Thanks, that's good advice - I will buy Mann filters - I always use K&N on my other cars but happy to use the correct filter Not cheap but the best protection you can give your engine.

Yep. I pulled a Bosch filter out of my 996 and it had partially collapsed. P/N A 1121840425, which from memory is even listed as an OEM part. The Porsche filter i replaced it with had a reinforcing mesh on the inside. This was the first oil change I did on the car and I was surprised when the dealer gave me a cartridge rather than the metal filters I'm used to.Not cheap but the best protection you can give your engine.
