In a dilemma as due to travel tomorrow from the South to London. But gusts predicted of 40 mph. Towed for more than 10 years without any problems but can’t decide if 40 is considered a high wind and dangerous.

If the van is well balanced with a decent nose weight on the hitch and you aren't flying past articulated trucks at 65-70mph you'll probably be fine.

Trouble is I’ve driven when it’s windy, but if someone asked me what 40mph feels like I wouldn’t know. Would be nice to know.

The trouble is there isn't a "safe" wind speed, It's all about luck.
As the last poster said you'll probably be fine, but also you could have a very bad day!
Do you really need to go, can't you wait day?

Being new to caravanning (picked up last month) I probably would drive in these winds but I’d just take it much slower.

(Happy to be put in my place by more experienced caravanners).
