Checking in with my first car that I feel is worthy of admitting to owning on Pistonheads.

I've now owned my race red mustang for a week. I've been in love with Mustangs and Challengers for years and the wife finally agreed to trade in our Golf GTD for a Mustang GT.

It's the most powerful car I've ever driven and it's just been an absolute dream so far.

I got lucky and managed to pick it up as an ex demo car with only 700 miles on it. The wife is an expert negotiator and managed to get another 500 off the asking price of 38k, free service and diamondbrite protection for free. ( I wouldn't recommend paying for this, loads of wax left in joints and I could have done a better job myself)

Had a run from Cornwall to Birmingham on Thursday averaging 32mpg so even the mpg is reasonable for a V8.

Mine comes with active exhaust, shaker audio and magnaride suspension with Black alloys.

The sound from the exhaust and stereo make me happy. You can either have a V8 symphony and quiet background music or windows closed, exhaust on silent and music cranked up. Both sound great.

It's been a dream to finally afford this car and is everything I expected!

Of course! Photos will be up when I get home and can compress the photos a bit. I'm going to get a few Glamour shots back home, in Cornwall as well.

Welcome to Mustang ownership OP. Race Red is a great colour choice though I might be a bit biased. I doubt you bought yours with economy in mind but they can surprise on long runs. recently took mine to Amsterdam and averaged 29mpg. I don’t have active exhaust, it’s a 2017 model, so can’t turn the volume down but that V8 burble is such a happy background noise I often drive without radio on at all. I’ve also found mine incredibly comfortable as a long distance, all day cruiser so it does live up to being a GT.

I don't know why my username was still my old one. I wanted to change it incase my username get's searched for.. confused

Any hoo here is a photo of my absolute pride and joy.

I had 4 adults in the car today and all seemed really comfortable, swallowed all our luggage, which is impressive with my wife...... It feels planted on the road and is just so quick! It's just brilliant and makes me smile all the time.

The negatives are very minor so far, cup holders are annoying and..... that's about it biggrin

The best bit is that people stare at it, I feel like the car is the centre piece of the road. I've spent many times staring at cars in awe on the motorway and it's just a great feeling to own that type of car.

I managed a very respectable 28mpg with 4 adults today over a 260 mile run, not bad at all!
The active exhaust has 4 levels! Quiet, which is comparable to my RR P38 in noise level, Normal, Sport and then fully open at race track mode! It even pops up with a warning saying please read the manual for race track mode. I don't have the manual from the dealer yet but I assume it says something like "not for road use, highly illegal, blah blah" smile

I want to do a Lands end to John O'Groats run and encompass the Scotland 500 this summer. I Don't live far from Lands End so it'd be a fun challenge to complete.

I’m near Winchester and been to Scotland twice in mine, one of those 3 up. In all honesty the back seat passenger wasn’t the most comfortable but the boot really is big, even more so with the seats down, just as well as this summer we need to get kayaking gear, wetsuits and climbing gear in.

I was so close to buying a mustang in 2016 but at the last moment veered off into a BMW dealership and bought an M140i.

I'd be keen to hear more about your ownership experience as I'm toying with the idea of making the switch. I'm just over in Bursledon way so not from you.

Surprised you managed 4 adults in comfort. I couldn't even get my young teens in my 2016 GT.

Wasn't the legroom, though tight, it was anyone above 5' 4" would have their head jammed up against the rear glass.

I was more worried about the window popping out when we would hit a bump hehe

Enjoy, sounds like a good price with those extras. Wouldn't that be well over £45k normally?

To think mine cost £34k back in Jan 2016. I miss it.

25k in and I’m averaging 26/27, pleasantly surprised by it tbh.

Is that based on the trip computer or calculated manually? Seems like pretty much everybody's trip (mine included) is about 6-7% optimistic unless you venture into the engineering menus and adjust the AFE bias. Over 1500 miles mine's averaging about 21mpg (which the trip would show as about 22.5mpg prior to adjustment).

Done using road trip app after every fill up, though my on board matches after following the instructions o n mustang6g.
