I was talking wheels and tyres with someone today, and they made a suggestion that Id like your views on please chaps.

Given my car will be 95% road use, and Im a tightarse, Im struggling with the thousand pound price to buy a new set of 13" wheels and rubber.

It was suggested to me to get rid of the ZV3 tyres, keep the 15" rims and fit a set of Yoko AD08s and see how I get on from there.... Ive driven the older AD07 on Elise' on track ad they were fine, so it seems a very economical way of improving things.

What do you lot think ?

The car is very twitchy and bump steery on the ZV's......

If you can still get them I'd go for CR500s they are the tyres I've had on my 150 sigma SV for the last 9 years and I've always found them to be excellent, I read your post on Blatchat about handling, the best thing I did to my car when I bought it was to park it on a very flat surface, load the drivers seat with the equivalent weight to me plus I put my girlfriends weight in the passenger seat, then I checked the ride height at the Caterham recommended points, my car had quite a variation in heights so I adjusted the suspension until the fronts were even at 110mm and the backs at 130mm, for road use I've found that to be a very good setup.

How about buying a secondhand set of 13 inch wheels instead? If you look about you can find sets for £500-£600 with tyres included.

I wasn't sure as the last time I looked they were still on the Avon Motorsport web site, if they aren't then try the replacement ZZR /ZZS as I've heard they are better.

I ran CR500's on my 13" wheels for years and thought they were excellent both on road and track.

However, I then replaced them with ZZS's and they are even better !!!

13" wheels are just the correct size on a Caterham in my opinion.

They aren't going to improve your bump steer though, you'll need to shim your rack to correct that.

Agreed, but I wanted to get the basics right before corner weighting and geo...
