I'm seriously thinking of putting a deposit on the new audi S4 thats released early next year. It apparently has a 4.2 V8 with 344bhp / 300 lb ft torque, with 4x4, 6 speed, xenons, 18'' alloys, sports seats, climate etc as standard - all for 35k.
What do you guys reckon it will be like? I'll be using it daily and for long euro trips, plus the odd trek to mount snowdon in wales etc with mates, so the 4x4 will be handy. I've also considered an m3 but not too sure about it's image. The evo 7 is ok too, but a little noisey and low rent inside.

Yes, go for it. After my last "advice needed", decided to wait S4 or, maybe, new A8. Ignore some comments from previously pointed old thread like: mpg doing 200 kph, trying to kill someone's family, who cares, it's a numpty after all.
Audi, IMHO, is an exceptional motor.

I quite agree with all the positive responses here;
Audi clearly know their onions these days and this rash of uber saloons and Avants is truly mouth-watering.
Just think, you've got Porsche 928GTS power in a far more rounded package and at quite silly money.
Indeed, my recent Franco trip got me thinking about the whole concept of GT driving; an irrelevant concept in the UK but perfectly exploitable on the continent.
You could buy any number of high powered super cars or mega Aston/Ferrari/Porsche GTs but at the end of the day, if practicality IS a factor you'll be almost as fast, with better economy (you know, my LS430 was registering circa 30mpg at 110 on the levels) and almost certainly no reliability worries.
The EVO VII seems like an option but it has one other major achilles heel you didn't mention, namely, a pathetic 200 mile range.
No, no; I think the new S4 makes immense sense. Do it!

...maybe with no badges too.
Must admit, I don't get this. Surely if you've got a car like this, you want people to know what it is?
Someone else will take the badges off if he doesn't. Happened to me twice (they cost £30 each) and to be honest the stealth thing is good fun. I don't like the new "S" badge much. Not so discrete.
