Removal of sound deadening and/ or sound absorbtion materiai
Discussion
As above in a 2005 997.1 c2s. Is this a worthwhile undertaking to reduce weight and any idea how long it would take a competent mechanic to then refit carpets etc?
I've read elsewhere that there is more weight saving to be gained by removing the sound absorbing material but this may be glued to the carpets?
I've got carbon folding bucket seats ready to fit so was wondering where else I can shed a few pounds in an attempt to make the car feel more alive.
About to also fit IPD kit.
Any advise would be much appreciated.

Fit lightweight battery?
Remove Aircon?
Light wheels?
Have a dump before you get in.
Especially for a daily I wouldn’t have thought anything that can’t be reversed would be worthwhile. Even if you went mad you’d probably only save 50kg or so on a car that would still weigh 1400+.
What are you trying to achieve? If it’s handling then consider suspension options, geo, ride height and maybe lighter wheels. If you want to let more noise through consider intake and exhaust options. Changing the interior would be a long way down my list.

I think that you’d be far better off spending a little on some decent dampers (not high end) and a set up. That will translate into a far better driving experience and probably end up costing a lot less in terms of time and money. Also they are just bolt on upgrades. I’d much prefer driving a well set up 1400kg car with decent damping control that a 1350kg car on Standard set up and standard dampers. You could also change your steering wheel for a cup item. That would remove a lot of airbag weight and give a nicer steering feel. All great - provided you don’t hit anything
If I were you I’d buy some dampers and take you car to a good set up specialist

From my own experiences in this area and having recently modified my 996 with some lovely lightweight Fuchs alloys:
Unless you go crazy, and even if you do, you will not really alter the fundamental or overall feeling of the car. Sure, a back to back comparison with an unmodified example will have you noticing better turn in, or less inertia and more delicacy........., but you get used to all those things.
I modify most of my cars in different ways, but if I'm honest, nothing I've done has transformed any of the cars into something more than a lightly re-worked original.
No reason not to do it of course
and I've found the best mods tend to be making the car better sounding (subjective), lower, and improving the aesthetic (Again subjective) If you want to sell the car on rather than keep forever, as has already been said, make sure you can reverse and hopefully sell on most if not all the modifications. You can usually get at least half the money back as there are plenty of others like us surfing eBay!!!!

My goal was for more exhaust/engine sound in the cabin - huge success. Also added slow-speed suspension chirps, not a daily but wouldn't stop me.
Combined with a few other items, I've probably reduced a total nudging ~60kg. Certainly hasn't drastically altered the dynamics but feels a little livelier.

Any chance of some internal pics please? I assume you removed the rear seats too?My goal was for more exhaust/engine sound in the cabin - huge success. Also added slow-speed suspension chirps, not a daily but wouldn't stop me.

if ultimately you still want to get into the gt3 im not sure going down the proposed route with some potentially non-reversible changes will help you with the sale?
Point taken but I'm sitting tight & seeing what happens with the prices. In the meantime, I want to enjoy the feel of a gt seat plus a few other reversible mods.If nobody wants it when I do find a suitable gt3, I'll simply keep the c2s.

I considered covering the rear with a fabric, for my taste, I prefer the stripped look!
