The Pembroke Arms is a great dining pub... Lots of character, great service and food..
Will need to prebook, as rather popular!

I'm glad to hear that. I was treated well enough there as a very occasional visitor some 25-30 years ago that I'll always have a soft spot for it. http://www.pubsinsalisbury.co.uk

A little north of Salisbury, but the Red Lion at East Chisenbury is very good.

Hi Rockingham Arms http://rockinghamarms.co.uk/ is very good will need to book. Just south of Salisbury off A36. If you both fancy something left field Rai D’Or is an excellent Thai and is still a pub. Or the Cafe Diwali is one of the best Indians in the area let alone Salisbury

I'm from Salisbury and don't really rate that many local places but agree if not too far The Red Lion is very good. From memory it only has a small menu of local in season produce and is all the better for it. https://www.redlionfreehouse.com
As a bit of a foodie I find Salisbury a bit annoying as it has lots of absolutely OK restaurants but does not seem to have anything really good that a city of its size / demographic seems like it ought to have. You have to go further afield like the Red Lion or south to the New Forest for anywhere stand out. The only recent exception is Cafe Diwali which does very good indian street type food but probably does not help for a Sunday Lunch and tends to be quite busy.
Edit: hit submit and then realised the poster above beat me to Cafe Diwali!

A friend from Surrey says this about there - it's almost like there's so much money washing about that no one needs to try. Beckford Arms, Fonthill Bishop, Tisbury
King John, Tollard Royal. Coming from the north you can have a roar up Zig Zag Hill on the way.
Museum Inn, Farnham
Royal Oak, Swallowcliffe
Anokaa, Salisbury - British food, Indian style. Worth a trip for.
North of Salisbury;
Ship Inn, Upavon
Barleycorn Inn, Collingbourne Kingston
The Outside Chance, Manton, Marlborough
