Here's £1000 - don't you want it?
Discussion
I wanted to buy a new laptop this morning, and because my credit card is registered to a PO Box and the company I was going to buy from cannot deliver to a PO Box, they couldn't sell me a computer...
"Do you want me to speak to a supervisor?" I ask.
"It won't make any difference, Sir" she says.
"So you don't want my £1000 then?"
"There's nothing we can do about it, Sir"
"Oh well, I'll take me money elsewhere then. Goodbye!"
"Goodbye, Sir. Thanks you for calling F
wit Computers."

Normal practice, I doubt anyone will mail to a PO Box.
This is because of the ludicrous practice imposed on the retailer by the CC companies.
If anything goes wrong, they take the money back first and ask questions later and the retailer ends up out of pocket until its resolved.
I appreciate they can't mail to a PO Box, but you can actually phone the Post Office and ask to which address a PO Box is registered anyway; it's no secret. It's the first time I have not been able to give a postal address and invoice address separately...

Especially after "Chip & Pin" has been foisted on retailers & the public.
Most c/card merchant co's will not let you have a terminal if you don't use the PIN - (ie if you overide the stated procedures)& let the customer sign, (or dispatch to an address other than the billing address) & the transaction goes tits up, the retailer will be left out of pocket...with no come back to anyone.
Can't think of a way round it apart from going into a shop & buying your laptop face to face....Like we used to

Chip and Pin.. one of the biggest cons of the last year, 'customer saftey' my arse, its only so the credit card companies don'nt have to cover the fraud anymore, its now been foistered on the retailers!
I had the same problem last week...
Trying to get a laptop delivered to my work address. I spoke to my bank in India
and they said I had to go to my branch to add a new delivery address to the card.
Unfortunately by branch is 80 miles away 'cause I moved and never changed it and use internet banking.
I had to get work to buy the laptop and then invoice me.

i used to have endless problems with this.
just ended up using my parent's address for deliveries - it's free and just as convenient...
well unless you are ordering hard-core porn :-)
Nope, didn't work - tried to give them my PO Box address and the delivery address, but as they were different, no could do!
Given I know which company this is (i used to work for them) they have had massive problems wth organised fraud / counterfeit credit cards etc in the past and have a very strict delivery policy.
However, all you need to do is ring your bank and give them an additional address for your card. The Computer company checks with the bank that the address of delivery is registered with them, as long as it is - no problem. Just ring your bank, give em and additional address (or full address of where you want it delivered) then no problem....
Now working in the card industry myself I can see the problem from both sides - and retailers have to protect themselves as do the card companies.
edited cos my typing is even more lessdixic than usual....
