Way to go Mika. It's nice to see him actually enjoying what he's doing. Don't think I've EVER seen him smile so much as he seems to do in the DTM.

Bad luck for Gary, though. Shame he didn't make the superpole and ended up battling down the field. Never mind, he's still leading the championship!

Cracking stuff! Hakkinen winning at Spa - just like 2000...

Some wise arse wrote a sneering letter to Autosport after the first DTM race (where Mika was about 10th), saying that Hakkinen was all washed up, talentless and should stay at home. I thought of that idiot when Mika came third at the second race, then again yesterday...

That's it, I'm definitely going to Zandvoort in August.

Damn I need Motors TV - is it on Freeview yet?

He wasn't as good as Wendlinger, or Frentzen come to that in a Sauber.

I think the WTCC is going to be shown on Channel 4 on the evening of raceday from now on.

This must in fact that Schuey is a driver flattered by his car and team, and has one a record 7 world titles by chance.

Sound plausible? Didn't think so. No matter how much people may dislike Schu, his talent isn't questionable; the odd race or move, yes, but overall, no.

Yes but it is a fact that he wasn't as good as Wendlinger or Frentzen in the Sauber. He came to prominence at Le Mans in '91 when he was very impressive, but during the Mercedes Junior Team year Wendlinger was generally considered to be the man who'd be an F1 champion one day. Hard to believe now, I know, but that's how it was.

Frentzen was a star at Le Mans in '92 in the Dutch Lola, too - in the rain he was the quickest on track by miles in a car that really shouldn't have gone that fast.

Re Frentzen: looked from the outside that his Williams experience was the downfall of his career. He went well in the Jordan afterwards but maybe missed out an a really top team because of what had gone previously.

I never said I disliked him, I pointed out a hard fact! That in the sportscar era of their careers, Wendlinger and Frentzen were both quicker and better drivers than Schumacher. It's really not that difficult to comprehend, or come to terms with if you look at the results from that period in time.

However much he's an F1 god (to some) he wasn't all that in the early stages of his career.

And would he have won 7 F1 titles had he not had the team wrapped up around him? No, thought not. It's what drivers in F1 nowadays need to become champion. There isn't a team on the grid that has two drivers battling for a championship, otherwise they'd take points away from each other. It's why Barrichello, who has shown flashes of brilliance far outweighing anything Schumacher has done, has never had the chance to fight for a world title.

Whilst agree with you points about having a team built around him I really do think that Schumacher is a better driver than Barrichello by a pretty wide margin.

Well, Monaco last weekend for a start. Schumacher was hardly in a position to do anything and was making mistakes. Did Barichello let him through on the final lap, or did he pass him legitimately?

There have been a number of occasions where Schuey has looked ordinary compared to Barrichello, but has not been allowed to show it through a full season due to Ferrari giving the best advantage to the guy they're spent 60 million dollars on.

I'm not saying he's not a great driver. I know that he is. I'm just annoyed by the fact that none of his team-mates have ever been allowed to go wheel to wheel with him in the same equipment. But then, I suppose when you have that security cushion it makes it easier to go faster?! I don't know, if I had all the answers I'd be a rich person!!
