Am I the only one to be slighty suprised at JC's report on the Tuscan R in The Sunday Times?

He uses at least one whole column spouting garbage and writing how well he knows Peter Wheeler - to the extent that he spends weekends at his pad shooting things.

It is only into the second column that he gets on with reviewing the car - pretty poor article over all. In the end I think he dosen't actually like it and gives it a 3/5 score.

He decides that he is too 'gay' to drive it - a remark slightly fueled by Ben Samuelson's retort to the question as regards ABS etc - 'no the car dosen't have those as we still make cars for heterosexuals...'

What...? Where does that come from?

The only amusing part of the article is JC calling Ben Peter's 'Baldrick' and that if there's nothing worth shooting at on his estate then Ben climbs a tree and prepares for the grapeshot....ha ha !

I think Jezza is a great writer, I've read Born To Be Riled and it had me in stitches!

I haven't read the report on the Tuscan R yet but I will in the near future, what you have to remember is that that report is HIS perspective of said car! If you read another article, the writer may praise it and kiss it's tyres before he sets off on a drive, it's really what your cup of tea is!

Which is why they don't usually give Tiff Needel a metro to write a report on, he is a racing driver and his views are on fast cars!

That's another reason why you will never read a road test on a Ford GT40 written by JC, he doesn't fit in it, it's a lovlely car, but crap for tall people!

Nuff Said!

I loved it, you cant read JC's articles in a serious manner, thats not how their ment to be read.

Indeed Born to be riled was very very very very funny, and you will find that in all of them he wont get on to reviewing the car till the last paragraph!

I personally thought that the letters at the end were great especially:

quote:
'Dear Mr Clarkson,
you're a prick'

Yes, only mildly amusing. a lame excuse to pick on a few minority groups, and nothing meaningful actually written about the car. Leaves you wondering if he's even seen it, let alone driven it (which I don't think he has from the comments about the previous test) and he certainly doesn't feel the need to slag it off because he'll upset somebody. Very tame - we'll give him 3/5 for this one then!!

PS - it was still funny just for the sound bite though!

He said he hasnt driven it, only the pre production model, which was heavier and less powerful than the one photographed

I remember seeing a programme (Top Gear maybe) where Jezza tried to fit into a GT40 but couldn't, so they got Noel Edmonds to do the road test instead...

Sometimes it pays to be a short arse...

well I've got a video of JC in Noel Edmonds GT40 hooning around some airfield and he raved and raved and raved. It's the same video he bags all the Jags in it and is more impressed by an F40 than the McLaren F1

I've got the same video, there was a modified roof on the GT40 to allow the 6ft plus owner to drive it, therefore JC was able to.

Surely he was saying that this was such an amazingly powerful car, requiring heaps of skill to drive well and not offering much in the way of creature comforts, and that he was a complete pussy and couldn't handle it.

I thought the article was pretty funny and was well chuffed to see a TVR getting a double page spread in a major paper. Showed it to my flatmate who doesn't know much about cars and he was pretty overawed by the whole thing. Top entertainment.
