Does anyone have some tips / advice for renewing the output bearings on the GKN diff?

Currently doing a body off restoration, and now starting to refub the diff. It was leaking on one of the output seals and also the input seal. I've removed the output shafts to replace the oil seals, and while they are off thinking about replacing the output bearings. They don't seem too bad, but the outside seal on one looks to be past it's best.

As far as I can tell the correct size bearing is 19mm x 35mm x 72mm however only 17mm x 35mm x 72mm seem readily available, and I see these can be used if a 2mm shim is fabricated.

Question is, how difficult is it to remove the bearings? They seem to be a press fit, with a retaining collar (which the oil seal runs on) also fitted to the half shaft that needs removing before the bearing. Can a bearing splitter / puller be used to do this, with some added heat, or is a heavy duty press required?

Hi,

Any comments on this topic, I am working to get to the same, replace seals and possibly bearings.
Does anyone know where to get the parts for the GKN diff, they seem to be rare.

I doubt the output/outrigger bearings are worn or need replacing they are pretty dumb and do little smile its the diff carrier side bearing taking all the st (internal case) just change the ouput seals and check there is no wear tramline in the said bearing retainers otherwise seal failure again will be soon enough
