I hate this.

A year in the current job, getting up early 5 or 6 times a week has runined my ability to have a nice lie-in. It gets to 6 am and thats it, i'm awake. 7.30 at the most I can manage before I have to get up or develop a stinking headache.

So now it's just after 8 on a Sunday morning, I'm awake, i'm the only one in the house and I'm thoroughly bored.

Marvelous.

But on the plus side, instead of wasting the day, you are up nice and early to make the most of it

I am the same, getting better though, woke up at 7 today, but just think, it gives you chance to do more stuff, surf the net, tidy up, wash the car, even go for a traffic free hoon

Thats the problem. I wouldn't be wasting the day. I've got fk all to do today!

Done all that stuff yesterday. Except the traffic free hoon. When you drive what I do that idea isn't hugely appealing.

Hey, welcome to the breakfast club

Already been for an hour's walk with my baby daughter this morning!

My advice: get an xbox!

Yeah, I've only just got up but its way later than I usually get up and I have a headache too. May have to go for a roof down blast in the Chim to clear it.

I love it. My internal clock lets me lie in every other month or so. Otherwise bed at 1-ish rise at 6:30am. I get a fair amount of me PH fix on a weekend morning and during the week I'm first in the office. By the time everyone else is coming in to a mass of phone and e-mail messages for the US, I'm all done and ready to face the day.

Morning in Spring and Summer is the best part of the day. Garden is fresh, birds are singing, car washing, mowing lawns, just generally a time to potter about.

Maybe not, but instead i'd be cold and miserable and possibly very wet on frequent occasions during my daily commute to work.

And what did you mean by 'cheap'?

Don't bother with the Westie - too compromised - but the idea of 'splitting' your car is a good one. Dig through the older/classic price guides, thinking about flogging the Rover for, say, £1250. Then you can spend half on a random cheap commuter hatchback, and the other half on a 205 GTi or a Capri - something to enjoy a hoon in.

Your implication being that you can't enjoy a hoon in a westie. Having owned a 205GTI and several Capri's I beg to differ. It's the low seating open nature of all '7' variants that makes them driver cars. You could stick a Ford 1300 pushrod in there and it would still be fun. A Capri on the other hand with its cart springs is certainly not a drives car, more a promenade cruiser.

Morning all

Out of interest do you drink a lot of coffee or tea? Or perhaps drink lots of alcohol or smoke? These all screw up your energy levels.

Check out the GI "diet" (not really a diet cos you don't cut down on eating).

Nah, what I was meaning is that, as his everyday all-round car is a Rover, it wouldn't be a good idea to replace it with a Westfield. Instead, get two cars that fit within the budget, one sensible, one fun, both cheap. Capri and GTi were just examples.

During the week I can do a continuous bed-at-0300-up-at-0830 routine, then on a Sunday it goes pear-shaped and I get up at lunchtime...

Hang on while I finish my breakfast...

Interesting ideas guys. Trouble is I have nowhere I can keep a second car. Also, I doubt I'd be able to flog it for very much anyway. And I can't afford to insure and maintain two cars.

I bought the Rover cos it was low mileage and they have a reputation for being mechanically bullet proof. At least engine-wise anyhow.

Last thing I need is to get two even cheaper cars that have much greater potential to break!

What do you need from your car? I'm sure I could suggest something for a similar amount that would provide reliability and reasonable running costs and a dash of practicality for the price of your Rover. Consider it PH helping you into a better motoring life
