Getting PVA glue out of carpet...

Can you freeze it to make it brittle so you can either chip it out, or crush it into powder with pliers and hoover it up..

fraid not, its quite heavily bedded in - and everywhere!!! (had to make a cardboard/PVA glued chassis and err.. didnt think!)

If it's the non-waterproof kind you could try really soaking it to soften it - but I fear you'll be in for a new carpet.

I got a major PVA spillage out of a carpet after a dog knocked the pot over, but I was on the case immediately.

Well... water should soften it - but you have to think what other damage that might do to carpet or floor. And even if it softens well, I'm not 100% convinced you'll get it off the fibres.

How about calling someone like Chem-Dry www.chemdry.co.uk/ for professional advice?

OK, rip it up, bury it and replace with £1.99 sq/m stuff and bribe the cleaners not to notice the difference.

Or soak it, sprinkle mustard and cress seeds on it and leave for next year's lot to enjoy I didn't spend 6 years at Trent Poly for nothing!!

spray soem of that water pipe freezer on it... then chisel it out.... or buy a rug to cover it?? no one will be able to see said glue then as rug will be stuck to it sorry not helping much.

If the guys that run the halls are anything like the guys who run ours (i.e. me) you're far better telling them you've done it than leaving them to find out. A big kitchen carpet costs us around £60 tops.

One of them. Depends on how widespread the glue is, if it's a small patch there's not much point, but if it's all spread out a VAX will be quicker and also remove the water from the carpet to stop it stinking! The detergent used in them should also help.

Its wide spread - I have access to a "Kirby" at home, so may get that up for a good go at the bloody stuff.

Big soaking wet hot rag. PVA glue is water based.
