My wife now let's me use the internet at home, so I decided it was time I got broadband.

I arranged a day that suited me and took the day off work(next monday).

But now the broadband pack has arrived and it seems to be saying that I need to install everything.

If that is the case why did I need to specify a specific day for it to be installed?

You just need to install the software and abviously the router/ADSL modem on your PC. BT's job is just to switch your phone line over to broadband from their end.

So...install all your stuff and you should be on. If not it's just a case of waiting for BT to do the switch. If it's not already on call them and ask when the switch is happening

From what I rememeber the older phone lines needed something doing to them that may need a engineer out.

Yes, they give you a day when your line will (should) be ADSL enabled. But you don't need to be waiting for a man in van, it happens at the exchange. You can install your modem, software etc before then, you just won't be able to connect to broadband.

In my case they couldn't switch me to ADSL on the stated day as they'd put a line splitter (DACS) in the line some years before, and that had to be removed before ADSL will work.

Thanks for the replies guys, so basically all I have to do is install everything on Monday.

One question though, I already have a form of adapter attached to the phone socket, where the sky box is attached, does this make a difference?

I dont think our sky, came into it, although a local problem (being local radio) was playing down the phone line at the time of installation causing the engineer to install some sort of filter device.
All gone now.
BT broadband helpdesk 0800 800 060, have always been very helpful too as leaving PC on all night and day, seems to confuddle the router they supplied
(voyager) but thanks to their help, a quick un-plug and re-start of the PC fixed that. all in quite a good service, given my mate had, NTL installed at same time, and has had nothing but aggro ever since
oh well.

The Sky doofer wont make any difference at all.

The Sequence is Socket>Microfilter>Doubler (if neccesary)>Sky Doofer>Telephone on the telephone socket side side and Socket>Microfilter>ADSL Modem on the ADSL socket side.

Easy.
