Opened the shed door yesterday and noticed a queen wasp busy in the process of nest building. No sooner got rid of her and we spotted another one flying into the loft space.
I ventured up there this morning and found two more nests under construction.
Lucky we caught them in time.
So waspophobes now is the time to check out all the likely places before they get established.

Too late...
I fail too see what you could possible find funny about the poor creature being killed in an extremely painful and unpleasant way, dying an agonising death alone in the dark, able to hear the voices of those who would help him but unable to cry for help, hearing you calling but unable to reply. And all the time the thirst, the thirst... the thirst and the stinging, buzzing, angry wasps...

My cat found our last wasps nest in the loft last summer, and was subsequently killed by the b*stards! Took us four days to find her...wasn't funny at the time but now

Nests I can cope with. Cleaning burst wasps off the bonnet is another matter altogether. They seem to weld themselves on much harder than flies.
Quick tip: get an old face towel dip in very hot water and leave on the area affected. Open can of stella, drink, take towel off, gently wipe bonnet with wet sponge.
Works every time.

I find that if you couldnt care less about them, they couldnt care less about you. I have never had a problem with them. They do however appear to home in on those who panic with terror, it must be a pheromone thing. My niece used to have terrible problems with wasps because she had been programmed by her mum to attract them with her frame of mind. When the penny dropped and she chilled out, no more problems.
I can uderstand it though if folks are allergic to them, it can kill (surely even more reason then to have the right attitude of disinterested nonchalance so they clear off).

Buried "binky" yesterday.
16 yrs old.
Been through enough scrapes to last 20 lives.
Daughter distraught wants two replacements.
Fecking tomcats.
Just planted two new willows and the t
t was lying dead next door. He'd have made perfect fertilizer for one (or both.) Just had a can of Alaska salmon the night before and some tuna in the morning.
Bloody great smile on his face as well.
RIP Binky. (that's the last time you crap in my beds)
MoJo.
Agreed.
I've only ever been stung by a wasp when it's landed on the back of my neck and I've grabbed at the tickle without realising what it was. Can't exactly blame the wasp for stinging. Apart from that they just buzz around and ignore me because I ignore them.
Sometimes I give them a banana skin; they like that.

I've tried the chilled out approach with wasps. Until one flew up my T-shirt sleeve during one moment of nonchalance and stung me on the arm. Swelled up like tennis-ball. Wasp came out worse though courtesy of a fag lighter!

That stuff about the cat is sad...
But yeah, wasps!
I love it when people are outside and a wasp approaches, and they start flapping about in a pathetic attempt to rid themselves of it. It just makes me chuckle. I actually suffer some pretty bad reactions (big, ugly swellings and some involuntary muscle spasms) to wasp stings, but becuase I don't faff about I hardly ever get stung.

As I am sat here with the cat having a good snooze on my lap lets get this absolutely crystal on the old wasp front
Death, destruction, annihilation, Armageddon, a right good kicking, swat, pulling wings off, pulling legs off, stamping, poisoning, magnifying glass induced bad time is where I am at.
A Wasp is without doubt the most hideous and pointless creature in the universe. The only possible good thing about a wasp is luring the little f
er into a jam jar via the small hole drilled in the lid and then getting to work with a V12 powered magnifying glass and send it to hell in puff of smoke
I think this covers the situation for me and the Siamese.
PS I am violently allergic to the swine and am not exactly undrstanding of their essential place in the food chain.
