Polo TDI Air flow sensor issue
Discussion
Hi, I'm wondering if you guys can help. I had the engine warning light pop up on my car and took it to the local garage who said it could be ERG valve or the air flow meter but he was busy, it would be fine to drive until he could look at it. So drove it for a week or so and then had a day when I lost all torque and loads of black smoke came out of the exhaust. I am not a car tinkerer generally so limped to the garage who said it was getting 3 times as much air than needed to the engine and that I needed a new Air flow sensor. He couldn't do anything till after the new year so he unplugged the sensor from the electrics and said it would drive like that till he could get it in. I figured that it couldn't be that hard to fit bought a new one, consulted google and popped it in. But I am still having the same issue of the revs bouncing when I first start the car, it stalling at junctions unless I give it loads of gas and the black smoke if I go more than a couple of miles. If I unplug the electrics from the sensor it's fine, just a bit slow because it's running in basic mode. So has anyone any idea what it could be? EGR valve was changed last year and the car has been well used so I'm hoping to just get it to last for a few months more so I can save up for a less battered one!
